Liverpool haven’t exactly had the start to the season many fans hoped for following the impressive 2nd place finish of the 2013/14 campaign. The Daily Express are now one of a number of media outlets linking the Anfield club to PSG’s forward Ezequiel Lavezzi as a means to bolster their squad.
Brendan Rodgers splashed £16m on maverick Italian striker Mario Balotelli in the summer but the former AC Milan forward has struggled to settle at Liverpool and is yet to net on his return to the Premier League. Balotelli won the title with Manchester City during his last stay in the UK but now as Daniel Sturridge is only just returning from injury and new signing from Southampton Rickie Lambert also struggles, Lavezzi could be a useful alternative.
Liverpool have returned to the Champions League this season but goals have been a problem in all competitions with an over-realiance on 19-year-old winger Raheem Sterling. With the board willing to splash the cash in the summer, Rodgers hoped this would continue in January with PSG striker Edinson Cavani. PSG’s owner though has confirmed that the Uruguay international will stay in Paris beyond this transfer window.
Ezequiel Lavezzi though is thought to be open to leaving France with the club also willing to offload the Argentinean who has played 60 times in Ligue 1 since his €26.5m move from Napoli in July 2012. At Napoli the creative winger/striker played 156 Serie A games and scored 38 goals, earning him a good reputation across Europe.
Liverpool fans, would you be excited to sign the 37 capped Argentina international?
