Berahino – a young Premier League starlet

Season on season the addiction of the sporting world to fantasy teams grows and grows. A number of different organisations run a fantasy team, offering various prizes and incentives to join and the best way to win one is by finding that hidden gem on the cheap who turns out to have a fantastic Premier League campaign. Here is 5 of the players you should have in your official fantasy Premier League team following the progress of the season so far:

1. Julian Speroni – Goalkeeper – Crystal Palace – £5m

When Tony Pulis left Crystal Palace just before the season began many worried that the Eagles would struggle. However under caretaker management and now Neil Warnock they have looked tight at the back and their goalkeeper Julian Speroni shows this. He has 29 points, above Man City’s Joe Hart and Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois but is also £1m cheaper than them both too! Why not save some cash between the sticks?

2. Ryan Bertrand – Defender – Southampton – £5.4m

Ryan Bertrand left Stamford Bridge on loan in the summer to find regular first team football. He joined Southampton who had been decimated by player sales but has quickly found a home and fine performances at St. Mary’s Stadium. He is ranked 3 out of all the defenders in the Premier League with an impressive 43 points, costing £5.4m he is a long way cheaper than the likes of Branislav Ivanovic who is £7.3m but only has 3 more points. In fairness any Southampton defender would be doing you well here, cheap and plenty of points!

3. Gylfi Sigurdsson – Midfielder – Swansea City – £6.8m

Sigurdsson rejoined Swansea City this summer from Tottenham Hotspur but has fast become a key component of the Swans’ Premier League campaign. He only achieved 72 points for Spurs all of last season but this year already has 48 coming from a goal and 6 assists, as well as 3 clean sheets. £6.8m may not seem that cheap but compared to the likes of Mesut Ozil who only has 30 points and costs £9.om if you had Gylfi from the start your fantasy team must be doing pretty well!

4. Diafra Sakho – Forward – West Ham United – £5.7m

West Ham United fans were perhaps worried when Andy Carroll was ruled out for a number of months but Big Sam delved into the transfer market and as well as Enner Valencia he pulled out a gem in Diafra Sakho. Sakho has shone so far in the Premier League with 4 goals taking him up to £5.7m from a starting price of £5.5m (and thankfully I have him in my team!). He has notched 41 points, making him the 6th most rated forward despite a cheap price for a forward. Of course Graziano Pelle has destroyed the Premier League too but now at £8.2m perhaps Sakho is an alternative for an affordable price.

5. Saido Berahino – Forward – West Bromwich Albion – £5.7m

Another phenomenal young talent that has emerged as a fantasy Premier League must this season is Saido Berahino of West Brom. Like Sakho he started the season costing £5.5m and is now £5.7m after 6 goals earning him 47 points and placing him 4th behind the £11m Diego Costa. He seems a regular goalscorer at the moment and with Crystal Palace, Leicester City and Newcastle up next don’t bet against him failing to continue his good form for the Baggies!
