When Luis Suarez bit Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini at the World Cup in Brazil this summer he received a long 4 month ban from football, now at long last it is time for him to make his competitive debut with Catalan giants Barcelona.
As football goes there is perhaps no bigger publicised derby than the famous El Clasico clash between Barcelona and Real Madrid. The two historic clubs are watched all over the world and the tie is so often filled with goals, scraps, red cards and drama. Tomorrow at 5pm (British time) a new dynamic is set to be added, Luis Suarez.
27-year-old Uruguayan forward Luis Suarez made the £65m move (according to Barcelona, £75m reported by Liverpool) to Spain in the summer and as debuts go tomorrow is no greater stage to turn out for the first time. Whilst it is not expected the former Anfield hero will start because of a lack of football in recent months, his boss Luis Enrique has confirmed: “He will have some minutes for sure”, followed by: “How many? That is the million dollar question. It is an important event for him. He’ll have time on the pitch.”
Luis Suarez joined Liverpool from Dutch club Ajax in January 2011 for £22.8m. He went on to play 133 games in all competitions for the Reds, scoring 82 goals. His last season in the Premier League was the most impressive with 31 goals in 33 matches, making his league totals 69 in 110. Suarez helped Liverpool to a second place finish in 2013/14 and now at Barcelona he will look to establish himself as one of the best players in football.
The controversial Suarez comes into an intense tie as 8 new faces could feature. Real Madrid splashing the cash this transfer window as well as vicious rivals Barcelona. However Welshman and former Tottenham star Gareth Bale will miss the game because of injury, a blow to Los Blancos. After 8 matches this season Barcelona sit top of the league with 22 points, 7 wins and 1 draw. Real Madrid are in third in La Liga with 18 points coming from 6 wins and 2 losses.
This game will be absolutely massive, who are you tipping to come out victorious?
