Stoke City and Ireland midfielder, Glenn Whelan is set to be out for up to 6 weeks after sustaining a broken leg whilst on international duty.
The 30-year-old midfielder suffered the injury whilst playing for Ireland against Germany as the Irish clawed a 1-1 draw with the world champions. Stoke City boss, Mark Hughes has spoken to BBC Sport in light of the injury; “There is a slight fracture, but he hasn’t been put in a plaster cast. It is disappointing but thankfully we have options in there.”
Hughes added: “It is a blow for him and it is a blow for us because we are likely to be without him for four to six weeks.”
Whelan who joined Stoke City in 2008 from Sheffield Wednesday has made 7 club appearances this season whilst making 3 outings for his country. A pivotal player for Stoke, Hughes will have to re-shuffle his pack and find a new centre midfielder to stand in for Whelan.
