South Africa goalkeeper and national captain, Senzo Meyiwa has been shot dead after breaking news reports from BBC were brought to the worlds attention this weekend.

The 27-year-old was believed to have been shot dead after his girlfriend’s house was apparently burgled in  Vosloorus, south of Johannesburg. Reports have said that 2 men entered the house as they attempted to rob the house, with one demanding the phone of Meyiwa before shots were fired. The third man involved waited outside before the trio fled.

An ambulance was called, but the South-African captain was pronounced dead on arrival.

A sad sad day for all of football as it mourns the death of a national hero. This is the time where reality strikes and everyone realises that football is just a game in the midst of life itself.

Meyiwa’s South-African team-mates shared their sadness and condolences on social media,  Tsepo Masilela Tweeted the whole country was at a loss, after the tragic death of his friend.

Football is just a game, but one that does bring us all together.

A sad day.
