Manchester United – Hunt for Netherlands defender begins

Manchester United’s defence has come under heavy criticism in recent weeks as it costs the Red Devils plenty of points. The Sun believe Louis Van Gaal will hunt for Netherlands defender Bruno Martins Indi in January because of his previous experience coaching him.

Ronald Maximiliano ‘Bruno’ Martins Indi is only 22-years-old and currently plays for Portuguese club Porto. He began his professional career for Feyenoord and from 2005 worked his way up through the youth system. He made his first team debut in August 2010 and eventually went on to play 102 Eredivisie matches for the team before Porto purchased him for €7.7m in July 2014.

Martins Indi shot to fame at this summer’s World Cup in Brazil as Manchester United boss Louis Van Gaal gave him his chance for the Netherlands. He has now earned 26 caps for his country, scoring twice and earning his move to the Portuguese Primeira Liga where he has played 10 games.

This perhaps will be a blow for Manchester United as the £10m target has just begun his career in Portugal but Louis Van Gaal will hope to convince his former player to rejoin him at Old Trafford and bolster his shaking defence. With Chris Smalling under a suspension for his Manchester derby red card and Marcos Rojo suffering a dislocated shoulder, it remains to be seen how the Red Devils will cope in the coming weeks.
