BBC Sport announces its African Player of the Year Short-list

BBC Sport has announced its African Player of the Year Short-list today and here are the nominees:

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang : The Gabon international has not been able to shine on the international stage as of yet as his country did not qualify for the Brazil World Cup. However, its Aubameyang’s club form which have earned him a place on the short-list for a second year running. The striker is renown for his electric pace, currently on the books of German side Borussia Dortmund, Aubameyang has impressed since his high profile move to Germany. His excellent form in the Champions League has not gone unnoticed ans the Gabon striker is being hailed as a real star.

 Yacine Brahimi : French born, Yacine Brahimi represents Algeria and currently plays his football in Portugal for giant club, Porto. The attacking midfielder can play centrally or on the flank. Brahimi scored in Algeria’s 4-2 win over South Africa in the World Cup and his recent form in Spain for Grenada was met with a £6.5m deal to join Porto. A player who has matured into a fine asset, Brahimi fully deserves his place on the short-list.

 Vincent Enyeama: One of the most infamous keepers in African football, Vincent Enyeama went to the last 16 of the World Cup with Nigeria. The 32-year-old kept an incredible 21 clean sheets for his club, Lille last season in the French League. An incredible fate from an incredible keeper.

Gervinho : Labelled as a flop when at Arsenal, Ivory Coast international, Gervinho has found his form since joining Italian side Roma. The striker has shone in the limelight in Rome and has turned heads with some scintillating performances this term. 10 goals in 39 goals for his new side has given Gervinho a new lease of life and he is certainly enjoying his football of late.

Yaya Toure: Yaya Toure has had a brilliant few seasons at Manchester City. Winning the Premier League title twice, Toure has experienced some fantastic individual performances. Arguably one of the best midfielders the Premier League and the world has ever seen, Yaya Toure would be many’s first choice for the prize. A powerhouse in the middle, a player who scores goals and assists, he is an invaluable asset to City and the Ivory Coast.
