Croatian midfield Mateo Kovacic is rumoured to be on the verge of a Premier League switch according to Insidefutbol.com. The 20-year-old is now linked with Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United as well as Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Mateo Kovacic began his professional career with Dinamo Zagreb in his Croatia after moving as a youngster from LASK Linz of Austria. He worked his way through the academy system and broke into the Zagreb first team, going on to play 43 league games for the club. On the 31st January 2013 Kovacic completed his big European switch to Inter Milan in the Serie A for an eventual €15m.
However, now his international captain Darijo Srna of Shakhtar Donetsk believes he should leave Italy to further his career to the potential he has shown. Kovacic has appeared in 56 Serie A games for Inter but Srna said: “Kovacic is one of the best young players in Italy; he is the one that makes the difference but if he wants to prosper, he must change his path.” Srna continued about the state of Inter Milan: “Inter are far from their best days and he would improve quicker if he were at a better club”.
Kovacic has a massive future in football ahead of him and despite agreeing to stay with Inter for the near future there is no doubt the club are no where near the mighty level they once were. This means Kovacic, who already has 17 full Croatia caps, must be willing to move elsewhere.
Can any of the Premier League sides secure his highly sought after signature?
