Manchester United pulled off a phenomenal move when they signed Angel Di Maria from Real Madrid this summer for almost £60m. The club record signing has started life in England strongly but stoked the fire about a move to PSG with quotes carried by the Daily Star.
PSG were heavily linked to the signature of Di Maria who fell out of favour with Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid despite a marvellous second half of the season in 2013/14. The winger eventually would be swept up by Louis Van Gaal’s Manchester United after the World Cup in Brazil and has since played 9 Premier League fixtures.
Di Maria began his career with his local Argentinean club Rosario Central for whom he played 35 matches before earning a move to Europe with Benfica for an eventual €8m. Di Maria would appear in 76 league matches for the Portuguese club when in June 2010 Real Madrid would pay an initial €25m. His time with the La Liga giants would be filled with plenty of assists as the creative midfielder played 124 league matches.
The 53 time capped Argentina international is not thought to be leaving Old Trafford any time soon but has been quoted telling French TV: “Now I’m in the English league. But you never know, there is a lot of movements in football. You can never predict where you’re going to play. There were a lot of clubs interested in me. A lot really. But Manchester United appeared and didn’t go away. They absolutely wanted me and it happened. It could have been a good experience for me to go to Paris, I know I’m still young, perhaps I’ll go to PSG one day. I don’t know how it will all end.”
So Manchester United fans, Di Maria has only been in the North-West a few months but now the 26-year-old is taking about his future departure! Do you think the midfielder is worth the £60m you paid for him?
