Southampton’s squad was decimated in the summer transfer window as manager Mauricio Pochettino left to join Tottenham Hotspur, previous stars Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren moved to Liverpool, Luke Shaw signed for Manchester United and Calum Chambers switched to Arsenal.
The Saints took £98m through the summer sales and The Sun believe new boss Ronald Koeman will seek out Bruno Martins Indi to improve the club’s defence further in January. Southampton are in second place in the Premier League, taking an impressive 25 points from their 11 opening fixtures this season. With money to spend and good results behind him, Southampton fans have every reason to believe they can attract big names such as Martins Indi.
Bruno Martins Indi shot to fame in the summer World Cup in Brazil where he was an important member of Louis Van Gaal’s Netherlands squad. The defender though is Portuguese born and currently plies his trade in his native country with Porto whom he only moved to in July 2014 for €7.7m. This is thought to be a a stumbling block for Premier League Southampton as he just settles in to his new team.
Martins Indi began his career with Dutch side Feyenoord and he broke into the full side for the 2010/11 season. He played 102 times in the Eredivisie growing his reputation but at only 22-years-old you can almost be certain a Premier League transfer will be on the cards before his career ends.
Southampton fans, would you love to sign the 26 time capped Netherlands international Martins Indi?
