Speculation about the future of Chelsea’s iconic goalkeeper Petr Cech has been rife ever since José Mourinho chose Thibaut Courtois as his number 1 between the sticks for this campaign. It is understood Cech wishes to move on and whilst Arsenal seemed a favourite, along with Real Madrid, the Daily Star believe AC Milan will swoop.
Petr Cech, 32-years-old, joined Chelsea for around £7m in July 2004. He began his career in the youth academy of Viktoria Plzen and had spells at Chmel Bisany and Sparta Prague before moving on to France with Rennes in July 2002. He cost Rennes €5.5m, playing 70 league matches for the club before attracting interest from some of Europe’s biggest teams.
Czech became the most expensive goalkeeper in Chelsea’s history and was immediately vital as he appeared in 35 of 38 Premier League ties in the 2004/05 season. In total Cech has represented Chelsea 327 times in the Premier League, 475 showings in all competitions. His trophy cabinet with the Blues is also impressive as he has won 3 league titles, 4 FA Cups, 2 League Cups, 2 FA Community Shields, a UEFA Europa League and a UEFA Champions League!
Chelsea fans were desperate to hang on to their 111 time capped Czech Republic international but it seems his time at Stamford Bridge is over. Real Madrid initially were favourites but Arsenal seemingly overtook them, now though reports clearly state Italian side AC Milan would love to bring him to the Serie A.
Where will Cech end up in January? What do you think?
