Manchester United are targeting, Borussia Dortmund midfielder, Ilkay Gundogan according to reports from the Standard. Gundogan struggled with injuries last season as he only managed 3 appearances for Dortmund after nursing a long term back injury.
Nevertheless, the midfielder battled through and is now back to full fitness, but has revealed his plans to one day play in the Premier League. The 24-year-old German international revealed he rejected a move to Spanish giants, Real Madrid in recent years.
“Real Madrid made an offer for me but my club refused it,” the Germany international said.
“At the time I had two more seasons on my contract. But also, my injury wrecked everything. I couldn’t play for 14 months.
“Now I want to look forward and make up for lost time with sporting success.
“Playing outside Germany is one of my big goals. If one day I leave here, I’d like to play in Spain or for one of the big teams in England.”
Manchester United’s light midfield means that Gundogan proves to be an exciting proposition for Van Gaal and his side. A player who can sit in the holding role in the centre is versatile enough to be able to push on a support attacks. The German has a wealth of experience throughout his career and remains young enough to be hungry for more success. A player who would fit in nicely at United, could Van Gaal be tempted with a bid for the German?
