The Chelsea hierarchy are set to recall young Ghanian winger Christian Atsu from his loan spell at Everton according to the Daily Express. It is believed Chelsea will look to loan Atsu out to Sunderland in the hope he will get more game time.
Christian Atsu began his professional career with Portuguese giants Porto and graduated their youth academy via a loan spell with Rio Ave. He would go on to play 17 league matches for Porto, scoring once before Chelsea purchased him for £3.5m in September 2013. Last season Atsu played for Vitesse Arnhem in the Netherlands on loan, playing 28 Eredivisie games, scoring 5 times.
Atsu was set to be given a chance to prove himself in the Premier League this campaign with a loan spell on Merseyside with Everton. Chelsea hoped the 22-year-old would improve greatly but has since only played 70 minutes of Premier League football for Roberto Martinez’s men, significantly failing to impress.
The 28 time capped Ghana international was a regular feature at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and the pacey winger may now be recalled by Chelsea and sent back out on loan to Gus Poyet’s Sunderland. The Black Cats sit in 13th in the Premier League and could do with some creativity going forwards, both benefiting Chelsea and Sunderland should the deal happen.
Everton fans, have you been impressed by Christian Atsu? Chelsea fans do you think he can one day be a Stamford Bridge regular? Sunderland fans, do you want to give him a chance?
