Arsenal have had obvious problems at the back this this season as injuries and the failure to add another defender in the summer have become costly. Arsene Wenger has spoken about the need to buy in January but surely not from rivals Tottenham Hotspur?
The Daily Express believe Arsenal could be tempted to try and secure defender Vlad Chiriches on loan from Spurs. The Romanian joined Tottenham Hotspur from Steaua Bucharest in August 2013 for €9.5m but has since only made 20 Premier League appearances. Chiriches has also played for International and Pandurii Târgu Jiu in Romania, being important at both clubs but has struggled to establish himself in the Premier League so far.
The 25-year-old would provide good cover for Arsenal should they be willing to try and secure him from White Hart Lane but the move would be seen as controversial. Sol Campbell notably made the switch between the two clubs in 2001 but received vitriolic abuse from the Tottenham Hotspur support for deciding to jump ship.
Arsenal will have competition for a loan deal though with Roma, Napoli and Inter Milan all interested from Italy and Schalke in Germany also in the hunt for his services.
