Southampton fans will be delighted with their start to their Premier League season so far and now Ronald Koeman has admitted he needs more signings to strength his squad. According to BBC Sport Koeman has sighted Southampton’s injury crisis as a problem and say she will talk to his board.

Southampton were not expected to have such a successful season as key figures such as Rickie Lambert, Dejan Lovren, Luke Shaw, Adam Lallana and Calum Chambers left the club in the summer. Manager Mauricio Pochettino also moved on to Tottenham Hotspur but since Ronald Koeman took the helm the Saints have been on the up. Southampton lie in 3rd in the Premier League with 26 points from 14 games and are genuine Champions League qualification contenders.

However, injuries have hit Southampton who were outclassed by Manchester City on the weekend and lost to Arsenal midweek. Koeman lambasted the injury problems in midfield: “A lot of midfielders are injured and that creates a lot of problems, I will speak to the board about what we need and what we would like to do.” He continued: “Everybody needs to be fit and we don’t have the numbers and players that the big teams have, and that’s difficult.”

Southampton have quickly become everyone’s second favourite team and many neutral hope they can mount a serious Champions League qualification challenge. Ronald Koeman and his recruitment team will have to move quickly and efficiently to secure their winter transfer window targets. Southampton fans, who do you want to sign and do you think you can make it into the top 4?
