Liverpool – Reds hunting Simon Mignolet replacement

Liverpool were last night dumped out of the UEFA Champions League by FC Basel of Switzerland. Their domestic form has been rocky too and goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has received plenty of criticism for his performances. Now the Daily Mail think they want either Chelsea’s Petr Cech or Stoke’s Asmir Begovic.

Simon Mignolet is 26-years-old and joined Liverpool in June 2013 for £9m from Sunderland. Mignolet has played 53 Premier League matches for the club and has sometimes impressed but also come under intense criticism. Brendan Rodgers made the decision in the summer to sell one of Liverpool’s greatest goalkeepers of all-time, Pepe Reina, to Bayern Munich meaning now he must target a new one.

Petr Cech is a hero at Stamford Bridge, playing 327 Premier League matches for Chelsea, 475 in all competitions. The 111 capped Czech Republic international is known to be looking for a club with first team football since losing his place to young Belgian shot stopper Thibaut Courtois at the start of the campaign. The 32-year-old would be a major coup for Liverpool but would José Mourinho seriously let him move to Anfield.

Asmir Begovic meanwhile is a 27-year-old, 38 capped Bosnia and Herzegovina international. Begovic worked his way through the Portsmouth academy with 6 loan spells along the way before finding a home at the Britannia Stadium with Stoke City. Begovic has 140 Premier League matches under his belt and would be a very solid signing by Liverpool if they could agree a deal.

Liverpool fans, what do you think needs doing about your goalkeeper situation?
