Arsenal fans were originally very excited when the club signed striker Gervinho in 2011. However his time at the Emirates went sour and according to Football Italia he now “hates” Arsenal for the treatment he received.
Gervinho is now 27-years-old but began his professional career with Beveren in Belgium. He scored 14 times in 61 league matches for the now dissolved club and moved to Ligue 1 club Le Mans in the summer of 2007. Between his time at Le Mans and then Lille he attracted the interest of Premier League side Arsenal for whom he cost almost £11m for in July 2011.
At Arsenal, Gervinho played 28 Premier League games in his first season, only scoring 4 times which was followed by 5 in 18 the next campaign. Arsene Wenger clearly didn’t favour the Ivory Coast international and shipped him out to Roma in the Serie A for €8m in August 2013. With Roma he has netted 10 league goals in 39 showings, 16 in 46 in all competitions but is admired by the fans in Italy.
The 60 capped international has now said about Arsene Wenger and his time at Arsenal: “He [Wenger] never had confidence in me, Garcia [of Roma] doesn’t differentiate between those who are playing and those who aren’t playing. That’s important for a player. He doesn’t only speak to those who are playing, he talks to everyone as there are 25 players in the squad, not just 11. As a child I dreamed of playing for Arsenal, because I loved them. Now I hate them for the way Wenger treated me. However, I regretted leaving the club after such a short time without being able to show my worth, which I’m now doing at Roma instead.”
Arsenal fans, do you regret Gervinho leaving or do you think Wenger made the right decision regarding the striker?
