Last night, the BBC hosted one of its biggest annual events, the Sports Personality of the Year Award. A fantastic evening where sports men and women are recognised for their incredible services to their sports.

Real Madrid superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo picked up the coveted, Overseas Sports Personality of the Year Award by the BBC last night and was presented the trophy by team-mate and nominee for Sports Personality of the Year Award, Gareth Bale.

The 29-year-old thanked his fans on picking up the award, “Thank you BBC for choosing me and to my old fans in England. Thank you very much,” said Ronaldo, who has scored 281 goals in 267 matches for Real.

He is only the second footballer to win the award since this century, after Brazil striker Ronaldo in 2002.

Thoroughly deserved.
