Manchester City have reportedly been chasing Atlético Madrid’s defensive starlet Jose Gimenez for a long while by a cheeky Manchester City bid of €22m has been rejected by the Spaniards according to AS.
Jose Gimenez is a Manchester City target, particularly because of his recent performances when given chances by Atléti boss Diego Simeone. The 19-year-old began his career with Danubio in his native Uruguay, played 16 league matches for the club in the 2012/13 campaign.
Jose Gimenez was given a major European opportunity when Atlético Madrid purchased him for €1m in April 2013. Gimenez played 1 La Liga fixture for the club last season but this year has been given more chances by manager Simeone, appearing 4 times in La Liga, 6 times in all competitions. This attracted the interest of Manchester City who are on the hunt for a centre-back in January.
AS also report that Manchester City have bid for Real Madrid’s Portuguese defender Pepe and Atléti’s other Uruguayan Diego Godin. Gimenez meanwhile is a prospect for the future but has already represented his country with 14 caps, playing against England in the FIFA World Cup this summer in Brazil.
