When Chelsea let Ashley Cole and Frank Lampard leave the club in the summer, I would assume fans thought neither would come back to haunt them. However Lampard came back to bite with a late equaliser for Manchester City and now it seems Ashley Cole will return to the Premier League.
Left-back Ashley Cole joined Chelsea in July 2006 from rivals Arsenal for £5m plus defender William Gallas. The deal shocked many with Cole being offered a wage of £90,000-per-week at Chelsea whilst only £55,000-per-week at Arsenal. Cole had began his career with Arsenal from a youngster, playing 156 Premier League matches for the club.
At Chelsea, Cole became possibly the greatest left-back in world football playing 229 Premier League games for the Blues, winning the league title, 4 FA Cups, a League Cup, a FA Community Shield, a UEFA Champions League and a UEFA Europa League. His long spell at Stamford Bridge was ended by his summer move to AS Roma where he has featured in a few of their Serie A fixtures.
The 107 capped England international is now a major target for Crystal Palace on loan this January according to the Daily Mail who want to offer the 32-year-old regular first team football. The biggest issue for the Eagles will be Cole’s wages but if they can secure a short term deal then that will significantly help their campaign to stay in the Premier League.
