Chelsea fans will be delighted to hear the news that their midfield talisman Eden Hazard is on the verge of signing a new contract at Stamford Bridge. According to the Daily Telegraph, the new deal will make him Chelsea’s highest paid footballer.
Eden Hazard is 23-years-old and can play on the wing or central in an attacking midfield role. He is one of the Premier League’s highest performers this campaign as Chelsea top the table in style. It seems his ability and José Mourinho’s desire to fight off the likes of Real Madrid are the reasons behind the club offering him £200,000-per-week on a 5-year-deal.
Eden Hazard played for a number of youth academies before making his professional debut, featuring for Royal Stade Brainois, Tubize and Lille. At Lille he graduated to the first team in November 2007, playing 147 league ties for the club, scoring 36 times. Chelsea paid £32m for Hazard’s signature in June 2012 and since moving to England he has gone from strength to strength.
Hazard has played 85 Premier League matches for Chelsea, scoring 29 times. His record in all competitions reads 39 goals in 132 showings. Whilst only winning the UEFA Europa League since his move to London, Hazard was given the club’s Player of the Season award for 2013/14 and is no doubt set to add trophies to his name this campaign.
Real Madrid were interested in securing Hazard next summer but now it seems Mourinho has kept his man. Chelsea fans, can Eden Hazard gone on to be one of the best players in the world?
