Chelsea to sign Lionel Messi from Barcelona? Surely not? Well whilst its a rumour many will dismiss, Chelsea’s star midfielder Cesc Fabregas would love to see the magician at Stamford Bridge.
According to quotes from Spanish media outlet Marca, Fabregas said about the prospect of seeing Messi in Chelsea blue: “I wish! Why not? I’d love that to happen. I’d be all for it. As a Barça man, I believe that Messi deserves to retire at Barça for all that he has given the club. He is a legend that has changed Barça history. But, as his teammate and friend, without doubt I’d love to have Leo by my side. This season Barça are Messi and ten others. Messi has saved his team on many occasions”.
Fabregas is 27-years-old and was an Arsenal legend before joining Barcelona in August 2011. The transfer cost around €34m in total and despite playing 96 La Liga fixtures for Barcelona in 3 seasons, the Catalan giants were willing to sell the Spaniard on. After 28 goals and plenty of assists that saw him team up with Lionel Messi, Chelsea purchased Fabregas for €33m.
Lionel Messi meanwhile is a world superstar and perhaps the greatest footballer ever to grace the pitch. The 27-year-old has played over 290 games for Barcelona in La Liga and holds the league record of 258 goals. In all competitions, Messi has appeared in 447 matches, scoring 377 times. However the chances of Chelsea actually signing Messi are incredibly minimal with the 96 time capped Argentinean almost definitely set to finish his career with Barcelona.
Chelsea fans… Lionel Messi? Is Fabregas dreaming or could Mourinho actually ever attract the forward to Stamford Bridge?
