Manchester City are set to potentially infuriate Chelsea supporters as they target former Blues man Kevin De Bruyne. The Daily Star believe the youngster is a top target for Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini.

Attacking midfielder De Bruyne began his professional football career with Genk in Belgium where he graduated their youth system and went on to play 84 first team matches for the club. Chelsea purchased the midfielder. who can also play on the wing, for £7m in January 2012 with De Bruyne set to move to Stamford Bridge at the start of the 2012/13 campaign.

De Bruyne wasn’t given a chance by Chelsea, being loaned to Bundesliga side Werder Bremen immediately where he played 34 times in all competitions, scoring 10 times and assisting 11. Last season he only appeared 3 times in the Premier League for Chelsea in the first half of the campaign as the club decided to sell him to Wolfsburg for £18m in January 2014. Since his move back to Germany, De Bruyne has played in 31 Bundesliga games and is now one of the hottest prospects in the league.

The 23-year-old has 28 caps for Belgium and Manchester City are thought to be sniffing around his signature. With Manchester City also suffering something of an injury problem in recent weeks, Manuel Pellegrini is looking for extra bodies. Wolfsburg want £20m minimum for De Bruyne meaning Manchester City have negotiation to do if they don’t want to pay over the odds.
