Manchester United have been chasing Portuguese midfielder William Carvalho for a number of months now but according to the Daily Star, Arsenal are set to swoop for his signature.
William Carvalho is only 22-years-old but is already commanding a mega fee for his services. With 11 full Portuguese caps, Carvalho has been on the radar of Europe’s major clubs for a few seasons but a deal is finally ready to be done… with Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal.
Carvalho began his professional career with the prestigious Sporting Lisbon youth academy in Portugal. The system that has produced many top players, including Cristiano Ronaldo, had found another gem. Carvalho had loan spells with Fatima and Cercle Brugge but is now a fully fledged member of the Sporting CP first team. After over 40 league showings, it seems his time to move on is coming close as the Premier League offers him a phenomenal opportunity to increase his abilities.
Arsene Wenger has already hinted at the prospect of signing a midfielder as he said to the media: “There is a need there [to buy], but the right opportunity has to come up. To buy [just for the sake] to buy is not what we want to do, but if the right opportunity comes up, we will do it. If you look at the number of games some players played and the injuries we have with [Jack] Wilshere, [Aaron] Ramsey and [Mikel] Arteta, we’re a bit short at the moment in midfield.”
Arsenal fans, would William Carvalho solve the issues in your defensive midfield area?
