Everton fans have had a tough time of things in recent weeks, despite hopes of a successful season under Roberto Martinez. Things were made worse for Everton when top goalkeeper Tim Howard was ruled out for 6 weeks. The Daily Mail report they now seek Wigan stopper Ali Al-Habsi as cover.

Tim Howard is a key figure in the Everton starting XI, the 35-year-old signing for the Toffees for £3m in February 2007 from Manchester United after a loan spell at Goodison Park. The American international has now represented Everton on 315 occasions in the Premier League, 371 times in all competitions.

Ali Al-Habsi meanwhile is known to Roberto Martinez from his times as Wigan Athletic manager. The 33-year-old Oman international has 92 caps and joined English football in 2006 when he signed for Bolton Wanderers. Only playing 10 times in the league for Bolton he moved to Wigan and after a loan spell was signed permanently where he has since appeared in 115 league games.

Everton though may be put off Al-Habsi because he is set to represent Oman in the Asia Cup at the end of January meaning if Howard has still not returned they are back to square one. Everton fans, who would you bring in to replace the 104 capped USA international?
