Liverpool – Reds to miss out on goalkeeping target

Liverpool fans have been talking about the prospect of the Reds signing a new goalkeeper in January. However one target, Keiren Westwood, won’t be joining Liverpool this transfer window as he ruled out the move.

Keiren Westwood began his youth career with Manchester City but failed to impress and moved to Carlisle United to break into their team. After that spell he was transferred to Coventry City and then got a Premier League opportunity with Sunderland. His spell at Sunderland was ended in the summer as he moved to Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship but because of good displays, the Republic of Ireland international was linked heavily to Liverpool.

The Sheffield Star though have confirmed Liverpool will have to look elsewhere though as they quoted the 30-year-old as saying: “I’m really happy to be here. I’m enjoyng my football and Sheffield Wednesday is a fantastic club to play for. I’m delighted with how things have gone and really happy to be playing football again.”

Liverpool fans have seen pressure mount upon goalkeeper Simon Mignolet who has represented the Reds on 56 occasions in the Premier League. The Belgium international was dropped by Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers before Christmas in favour of back-up Brad Jones. This followed poor performances and led media outlets to believe the Anfield club want a new shot stopper this transfer window.

Liverpool fans, do you want Rodgers to stick with Mignolet or is there another keeper you have in mind?
