Newcastle United have terminated the contract of Frenchman Hatem Ben Arfa according to Sky Sports.
The 27-year-old is close to completing a short-term-deal at Nice in Ligue 1. A Nice statement last week read: “We have reached an agreement in principle with Hatem Ben Arfa. The France international will have a medical on Monday prior to signing with Le Gym.”
A statement from Newcastle read, A statement on the club’s official website read: “Newcastle United can today confirm that Hatem Ben Arfa and the club have reached an agreement to terminate the contract between both parties with immediate effect by mutual consent. Newcastle United wishes Hatem all the best for his future.”
Ben Arfa joined the Toon Army in 2010 from Marseille and wowed the crowds with his incredible poise, balance and flair on the ball. However, the Frenchman’s form dipped and Ben Arfa found himself in and out of the side. Reports also suggest he was difficult off the pitch which made the decision to let Ben Arfa go that bit easier.
