On loan West Ham United midfielder, Alex Song has retired from International duty after not being selected by Cameroon for the African Cup of Nations, says BBC Sport.
The breaking news does come as a relief to Hammers fans who will be over the moon they will have their key centre midfielder available for the next month; every cloud…
Song did however post up on his instagram – “My love for my country will never change.”
Speaking to BBC Sport, Song said, “I want to take time to focus purely on domestic football and start to rebuild my career at West Ham United.”
Since the World Cup in the summer and my subsequent exclusion from the Cameroon squad for the African Cup of Nations I have taken the decision to retire from international football,” Song, who won 47 caps, said.
“It is true that there were some discussions of late to include me in the squad for this tournament but I feel after a lot of careful thought and numerous discussions with my family this is the right decision.”
An interesting decision from a man who is just 27-years-old, is it a decision that Song will revert later in his career?
