Aston Villa captain and key defender, Ron Vlaar has been hit with a knee injury that will keep him out for around 6 weeks.
The injury will be a huge blow to Villa who have been relying heavily upon the Dutchman to help see them through games. Vlaar, 29, who is out of contract in the summer, limped off 15 minutes into Villa’s 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace on New Year’s Day.
Villa manager Paul Lambert told BBC Sport that the Netherlands international would be out for “four to six weeks”.
Linked with illustrious moves to Liverpool and Manchester United, Villa may face seeing Vlaar leave for a free in the summer unless they sold him this month. However, with the injury, Vlaar would struggle to pass a medical.
It would appear the Dutchman will finish the season at Villa Park before moving elsewhere. A huge blow for Lambert and co.
