Alvaro Arbeloa was always a player with a mixed following whilst he played for Liverpool. Some felt he wasn’t up to the Premier League whilst overs loved the right-back. Now the Spaniard could be set for a return to Anfield according to reports in the Daily Express.
Arbeloa is 31-years-old and after beginning his career with the Real Zaragoza youth academy he moved on to the Real Madrid youth system. Arbeloa represented Real Madrid C and Castilla before making 2 La Liga showings for the first team. After a loan spell with Deportivo La Coruna he was purchased by Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez in January 2007.
Despite a mixed response from the Liverpool support, Arbeloa attracted interest from his former club and Los Blancos took him back to the Spanish capital for £5m in July 2009. Arbeloa has outlasted a number of players completing for his full-back spot and has made 136 La Liga appearances since.
With Glen Johnson set to depart Anfield at the end of the season, Brendan Rodgers is looking for a right-back replacement. Both Arsenal and Chelsea want the 56 capped Spaniard but Arbeloa would prefer a Merseyside return meaning he is set to add to his 66 previous Premier League games for the Reds.
