Arsenal are ready to launch a huge double bit for Dortmund duo, Mats Hummels and Ilkay Gundogan, according to reports from the Daily Star.
Arsenal are in desperate need of defensive cover as well as a new defensive midfielder. The Gunners are continually plagued by injury and it would appear they require back up. However, when looking at the signing of Alexis Sanchez, it goes to show that instead of paying less money to sign more players, it’s best to throw a bit more and get one class act. In this case, Arsene Wenger may be inclined to launch big money to snap up this German pair.
There is no secret Arsenal are in short supply of defenders, the signing of Hummels would not only bring about numbers, but real quality in the heart of defence. Hummels wears his heart on his sleeve and the world cup winner may be inclined to depart Dortmund for pastures new in the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are also in the hunt for a new defensive midfielder. With Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini both ageing and not quite the players they once were; it might be time for a new man to come into the mix. Introducing, Ilkay Gundogan; the Dortmund midfielder is a hard hitting, tough tackling, box to box midfielder who would keep the Gunners ticking over in the middle. A player of undoubted quality, will Wenger be tempted to splash the cash on a new DM?
Arsenal need to be brave and add to their squad, if Wenger is serious about challenging for the Top 4, he must buy this January and by well.
