Liverpool’s goalkeeping target Matthew Ryan has handed the Reds some confidence in their pursuit of his signature. According to quotes in The Metro the Club Brugge stopper wants to switch to Anfield.

Matt Ryan is just 22-years-old and was born in New South Wales. Ryan played for Australian sides Blacktown City and Central Coast Mariners making a combined 91 league appearances for both sides. In May 2013, Club Brugge sought to bring Ryan to Europe and offered him a chance to compete at a higher level of football.

Ryan has since played 61 league matches for Brugge and earned 16 full Australian caps too as his reputation increases. With Liverpool said to unhappy with first choice Simon Mignolet’s performances this season and with their other Australian, Brad Jones, not considered up to first team level, Ryan is now a key target.

Ryan’s agent, Mikkel Beck has welcomed the interest on behalf of Ryan, saying: “It is normal that there are rumours surrounding him as he is a top talent. We will sit down in the summer and talk about things and if there is something concrete and something special that comes up we will consider it. Playing in the Premier League would be of interest to Mat as it is one of the best leagues in the world and knowing how ambitious Mat is, it is the kind of league he would like to play in.”

Liverpool fans, do you want to sign Mat Ryan? Are you happy with Simon Mignolet?
