Newcastle United are set to compete with Londoners Arsenal for Ipswich Town left-back Tyrone Mings. According to the Daily Mail, one of the hottest prospects in the Championship is set for a Premier League switch before the end of January.
Mines began his youth career in the prestigious Southampton academy but after 8 years, failed to make the grade and was released. Mings then joined Bristol Rovers before dropping even further down to minnow Yate Town and then Chippenham Town.
The Bath born defender had considered giving up his footballing dream but was spotted by Ipswich Town and purchased for a tiny £10,000. The 6ft 5in number 3 has shone for the Tractor Boys in recent months and after 39 Championship appearances for the club is set to get his opportunity in the English top flight.
Arsenal have been tracking Mings to improve their defence but now Newcastle United have joined the race for his signature. Crystal Palace attempted to snap the defender up in the summer but missed out as a £3m was rejected with Ipswich holding on for a few million more. With the Football Association now keeping tabs on the completely uncapped international, we could expect to see Mings in an England shirt in the future.
