Championship strugglers Cardiff City have announced their fifth, sixth and seventh January signings this evening as League One top goalscorer Eoin Doyle completes his transfer with Conor McAleny and Matthew Kennedy joining from Everton.
Cardiff confirmed the move for Doyle on their official website. The former Chesterfield striker has netted 25 goals in all competitions this season. The 26-year-old Irishman told the club upon signing: “When I heard about Cardiff’s interest this morning, I couldn’t ignore it,” said Eoin. “It was then a case of getting in the car and getting down here as quickly as I could. I’m really looking forward to getting going now and the challenge ahead.”
This was then followed by the double swoop for Everton youngsters Conor McAleny and Matty Kennedy, confirmed on Twitter. 22-year-old McAleny is one of Everton’s hottest young prospects and he joins Cardiff on a loan until the end of the season.
Matty Kennedy meanwhile is a 20-year-old Scottish winger who joined Everton in 2012. Kennedy featured on loan for Tranmere Rovers, MK Dons and Hibernian but has now joined Cardiff City on a three-and-a-half-year deal. The Scotland Under-21 international is perhaps the wide creative man Cardiff required.
Cardiff have been suffering of late since relegation from the Premier League but it now seems that the Bluebirds have strengthened on deadline day and their fans are happy about it!
