By Gerald Lynch on November 15th, 2012

Your paper documents may be boring, but you can at least pretend your working life is a little more stylish and sophisticated if you’re pulling them out of this Polo Ralph Lauren Highland Khaki Messenger bag.

Perfect for the everyday commute, it features brass fastening buckles and leather straps on a modest khaki fabric. Back to School Fashion: Rucksacks

By shinychris on October 3rd, 2012

Sponsored post

Back to school again – the best part of this is all the new gear you get to show off, right? Your stuff has to work hard – we know that, so here are a few backpacks new to the market including some from the new range at JD Sports that will look cool and fit everything you need, all while being tough enough to last the school year.

The Nike NSW

First up is the Nike NSW backpack. It’s all grey with a huge Nike logo on the front in black. It’s got two zipped compartments – the main one and a front pocket for your sweets and phone. It’s big enough for all your books and a drinks bottle as well. It has adjustable straps and a looped grip handle so you can grab and go, and not miss the bus. All this for £20? Bargain!

The Converse Stuff It

Next is the Converse Stuff It Backpack, and let’s face it, there’s never been a time when Converse wasn’t cool. This one is black with the Converse logo on the front. It has two zipped compartments, one main one and one on the front, and two elasticated side pockets big enough for a drinks bottle. It also has padded, adjustable straps and a padded back panel for those heavy-book days. Best of all it has an abrasion-resistant bottom so it’ll take a bit of a beating before it drops all your stuff on the floor. At £30, this one’s a steal.

The Timberland Pink Backpack

Here’s one for the girls – the Timberland Backpack in pink. This one has a zipped main compartment and front pocket, which has inside pockets for your phone and other bits. The straps are adjustable, and has a grab-and-go hook at the top. This one’s exclusive to JD, so you won’t get it anywhere else! For £25, you could do a lot worse.

Duffer of St George Miller

Lastly we have the Duffer of St George Miller Rucksack, and this one is pretty awesome. Its natural-coloured canvas and tumbled leather so it’s hard-wearing, and has two buckle straps and a drawstring to keep it closed. The buckled shoulder straps are adjustable and it has one zipped inner pocket. This is another JD exclusive, so make sure you grab yours while you can. For £25 this is a total bargain and looks really, really cool.

These are just a few of the rucksacks and backpacks on offer this September – there are plenty of other big names like Adidas, McKenzie, Umbro and Gio Goi to choose from as well but these are the hottest ones on the market. Make sure you check them out and go back to school looking sharp.

Ted Baker Bespoken For: Yes, it does have my name on it!

By Gerald Lynch on April 27th, 2012

Ted Baker have just launched the Bespoken For service, letting you tailor the brand’s shirts and bags with up to four letters or numbers for a more personal touch. We’d avoid popping your pin number on a piece though.

Aimed at anyone who’s a bit sick of saying “hands off, it’s mine”, it looks especially preppy on a Ted Baker leather satchel, as seen here, with a bit of gold trim embossed lettering. There’s also a blind option too.

“Customers can now choose from a select range of high quality Ted Baker menswear and womenswear pieces and then add your own initials to create a truly unique gift that’s as individual and stylish as the clothes that bear Ted’s name,” reads a post on the brand’s blog.

That four letter limit though seems a bit short sighted. I’m thinking of grabbing a shirt that has a four letter word beginning with “F” on it, and a bag that reads “OFF”.

The service is only available instore at point of purchase, at the Covent Garden Ted Baker branch. Visit to find out more about the service.

The Leather Satchel Company

By Laura on January 1st, 2012

Satchels have been big this year and we don’t expect this trend to disapear anytime soon. While there are a lot of companies making satchels, we highly recommend The Leather Satchel Company.

The Leather Satchel Company make custom satchels for the same cost as many off the shelf competitors, meaning you get a one of a kind bag for a great price. On their website you can pick from an impressive array of colours and style combinations.

After placing my order for a classic chocolate brown leather satchel, I received an email from their workshop to discuss in depth what I was going to use the satchel for and to make sure it would suit my needs. In the end I opted for the 14″ with briefcase handle and strap for a degree of flexibility.

Among some of the many other options to customize your bag include adding deeper gussets to allow you to slide in ‘more books’ in your satchel and Backpack Straps, perfect for cyclists.

All satchels are hand-crafted in Britain from top quality, natural heavy leather by artisan leather-smiths. This standard design features a long adjustable shoulder strap and is stitched using a colour matched blend of cotton and nylon for extra durability. The straps and fasteners are then finished with silver buckles and finally the satchel is riveted for completeness. All satchels come with a 30-day money-back guarantee and a 5-year craftsmanship guarantee.

Here is a peak inside my satchel.

Herring Shoes launch luggage collection

By Laura on December 31st, 2011

Classic British shoe maker, Herring recently extended their brand by branching into Luggage. The new luggage range includes everything from wash bags to large weekend holdalls, all finished in a super soft dark brown waxed leather.

In keeping with their heritage, Herring has named each bag after a London landmark. Our favourite is the Dorchester, a weekend-sized holdall with two external zip pockets, sturdy webbing strap handles and a large internal zip pocket. The base is stiffened with brass stud detailing to help preserve the leather. A close second is the Ritz wash bag.

Prices of the Herring Shoes Luggage collection range from £45 to £175.

The Courier Ruc Case by J. Panther Luggage Co.

By Laura on December 30th, 2011

The Courier Ruc Case by J. Panther Luggage Co. from J. Panther Luggage Co. on Vimeo.

J. Panther Luggage Co. launched just over a year ago after 2 years of intensive development. Now they are well established in the luggage market and have quite a loyal following. Their products are designed and tested in NYC then handcrafted and finished by New England artisans who’ve been making upscale luggage for generations.

The Courier Ruc Case is their first new product since launching, and we love it! Drawing upon the versatility of their Ruc Tote and the more sporty features of the deluxe Perfect Weekender, this is the perfect work-oriented bag. What stuck us most is that its been designed to withstand the roughest treatment en route to the office, yet it is still bound to leave a good impression once there, unlike the many more sporty cycle bags available.

The Courier Ruc Case has been hand-built from water-resistant Horween leather and has a unique highly functional three-way carry system. The leather handles of the classic briefcase are augmented by two further options. Twin straps to the rear provide simple yet efficient ruck-style carry, with the third option of a shoulder strap. The bag opens up fully in a book-like style and will fit most laptops. In addition it has a variety of compartments and pockets that will accommodate tools ranging from iPads and tablets down to pens and business cards.

The Courier Ruc Case retails for $990 USD and is available here.

Military inspired backpack From Marc by Marc Jacobs

By Laura on April 11th, 2011

Over the last few weeks, I have noticing a lot of Londoners rocking the backpack. After all it is a great way to carry all your things, whether your off to work or going for an impromptu picnic.
One backpack that has caught my eye in particular is this military inspired bag from Marc by Marc Jacobs. The bag features logo patches and two easily accessible front pockets. While the bag’s design is mostly gray, contrast is provided by the use of off-white towards the base and fastening strap as well as brown for the shoulder straps.

Head Porter Brighton Collection

By Laura on March 31st, 2011

I am not sure why but I am feeling in a rather nautical mood today…. It probably has something to do with the fact I wish it was summer and of course summer = boats. Anyways rambling aside…I was recently pointed in the direction of this awesome Brighton collection by Head Porter, and its on days like this I desperately wish I owned half of it.

I love how they have simply applied thick navy stripes over their signature styles, including backpacks, waistbags, shoulder bags and even the nautically-relevant sling bag.

The bags are available now online via Head Porter.
