Satchels have been big this year and we don’t expect this trend to disapear anytime soon. While there are a lot of companies making satchels, we highly recommend The Leather Satchel Company.
The Leather Satchel Company make custom satchels for the same cost as many off the shelf competitors, meaning you get a one of a kind bag for a great price. On their website you can pick from an impressive array of colours and style combinations.
After placing my order for a classic chocolate brown leather satchel, I received an email from their workshop to discuss in depth what I was going to use the satchel for and to make sure it would suit my needs. In the end I opted for the 14″ with briefcase handle and strap for a degree of flexibility.
Among some of the many other options to customize your bag include adding deeper gussets to allow you to slide in ‘more books’ in your satchel and Backpack Straps, perfect for cyclists.
All satchels are hand-crafted in Britain from top quality, natural heavy leather by artisan leather-smiths. This standard design features a long adjustable shoulder strap and is stitched using a colour matched blend of cotton and nylon for extra durability. The straps and fasteners are then finished with silver buckles and finally the satchel is riveted for completeness. All satchels come with a 30-day money-back guarantee and a 5-year craftsmanship guarantee.
Here is a peak inside my satchel.

Classic British shoe maker, Herring recently extended their brand by branching into Luggage. The new luggage range includes everything from wash bags to large weekend holdalls, all finished in a super soft dark brown waxed leather.
In keeping with their heritage, Herring has named each bag after a London landmark. Our favourite is the Dorchester, a weekend-sized holdall with two external zip pockets, sturdy webbing strap handles and a large internal zip pocket. The base is stiffened with brass stud detailing to help preserve the leather. A close second is the Ritz wash bag.
Prices of the Herring Shoes Luggage collection range from £45 to £175.

The Courier Ruc Case by J. Panther Luggage Co. from J. Panther Luggage Co. on Vimeo.
J. Panther Luggage Co. launched just over a year ago after 2 years of intensive development. Now they are well established in the luggage market and have quite a loyal following. Their products are designed and tested in NYC then handcrafted and finished by New England artisans who’ve been making upscale luggage for generations.
The Courier Ruc Case is their first new product since launching, and we love it! Drawing upon the versatility of their Ruc Tote and the more sporty features of the deluxe Perfect Weekender, this is the perfect work-oriented bag. What stuck us most is that its been designed to withstand the roughest treatment en route to the office, yet it is still bound to leave a good impression once there, unlike the many more sporty cycle bags available.
The Courier Ruc Case has been hand-built from water-resistant Horween leather and has a unique highly functional three-way carry system. The leather handles of the classic briefcase are augmented by two further options. Twin straps to the rear provide simple yet efficient ruck-style carry, with the third option of a shoulder strap. The bag opens up fully in a book-like style and will fit most laptops. In addition it has a variety of compartments and pockets that will accommodate tools ranging from iPads and tablets down to pens and business cards.
The Courier Ruc Case retails for $990 USD and is available here.

We get sent a lot of cycling bags here at Brandish, but The Fitzroy by Mission Workshop has to be one of our all time favourites.

The Fitzroy is an impenetrable fortress of a pack that holds and protects all of your gear,
cargo, and valubles from morning’s start to the day’s end. Built to last a lifetime with waterproof fabrics and military spec. construction. A few months ago I was introduced to this great new line of travel bags by Lexdray.
Set to launch this month the debut collection, “The Classified Collection,” is inspired by concepts of utility and exploration.
The bags are understated on the outside, yet technically sophisticated on the inside, with secret pockets and concealed details. Each piece is constructed from high quality materials, including 1680D nylon, neoprene and leather, as well as military grade hardware, buckles, and zippers.
Retail prices are expected to range from $325 – $510.

Over the last few weeks, I have noticing a lot of Londoners rocking the backpack. After all it is a great way to carry all your things, whether your off to work or going for an impromptu picnic.
One backpack that has caught my eye in particular is this military inspired bag from Marc by Marc Jacobs. The bag features logo patches and two easily accessible front pockets. While the bag’s design is mostly gray, contrast is provided by the use of off-white towards the base and fastening strap as well as brown for the shoulder straps.

I am not sure why but I am feeling in a rather nautical mood today…. It probably has something to do with the fact I wish it was summer and of course summer = boats. Anyways rambling aside…I was recently pointed in the direction of this awesome Brighton collection by Head Porter, and its on days like this I desperately wish I owned half of it.
I love how they have simply applied thick navy stripes over their signature styles, including backpacks, waistbags, shoulder bags and even the nautically-relevant sling bag.
The bags are available now online via Head Porter.

Warmer weather is fast approaching and many are getting their bikes out again. One of the most important accessories for any cyclist (other than safety items of course) is a a solid and dependable pack for carting your possessions around.
While there are plenty of options out there, we absolutely love the latest Mystery Ranch messenger bag. The Outsider features a padded computer sleeve, numerous pockets for organization, and a detachable shoulder strap cellphone case among other elements.
Mystery Ranch bags are available on their website here

We love this latest backpack from Epperson Mountaineering.
Constructed in their Libby, Montana workshop, they have been making functional, yet stylish backpacks for over 30 years. The ballistic nylon combined with a more progressive color-blocked design makes this bag look good on or off the mountain. We particularly love the tribal patterned straps.
The bag is available for € 169.86 at Oi Polloi.

The Master-Piece Over V4 Backpack came out a few months ago now, but I have decided to write about it anyways, as every time I see one I get a little bit of bag envy.
Made by the renowned Japanese bag manufacturers Master-Piece, the V4 was made exclusively for the UK market. With a nylon upper with suede trims, each bag is monotone with very minimal branding. But what makes these bags so great is the incredibly vibrant colours, and the attention to detail. From the almost perfectly matched suede and nylon, to the brushed steel buckles this bag has been well thought out and designed
However, they don’t come cheap priced at £185. I guess I can keep dreaming for now.

Tonight I had the chance to go to an exclusive acoustic set by Justin Townes Earle an exclusive acoustic set at Liberty department store in London’s west end, to celebrate the opening of the new Nudie Jeans shop.
While there I caught a glimpse of this amazing over sized bag. Made from 10 oz Turkish denim with a black coating, it would make an absolutely perfect weekend bag. The Handles, sides and bottom are made of leather, and the bottom is reinforced with six bag feet. This bag also features the jeans pocket embroidery made with an indigo thread and a customized gunmetal zip puller.
Unfortunately it was quite busy so I wasn’t able to check out some of the other bags Nudie had on offer. However, if this bag is anything to go off of, it will definitely be worth the trip back to take a look.

As any cyclist will know it is important to have a durable bag to carry your things around with you. In recent years the Barbican bag has certainly lead the trend, becoming a familiar sight on the shoulders of cyclists everywhere. The bag was made popular because of its tough materials, and large storage capacities.
Now Brooks, the English saddle maker, have released their version to the masses. Made from their saddle-grade leather, the Barbican is made with immaculate quality as you’d expect from the English company.
No release date yet, but it should be announced soon through their website Brooks England
