Depending on your financial situation, you may be looking at the fact that sales are getting larger by the minute as a gift or a curse. The Matches sale is the largest yet, although I’m sure they’ll be a bigger one next week. To accommodate its size, I’ve decided to focus on a designer at a time – this post will focus on Phillip Lim. Check after the jump for info on these items.
Men A La Mode summer sale
With most sales selling out within hours these days, it’s refreshing to see that the Men a la mode sale still has stock an entire week after it started. There’s so many pieces on sale, you’ll probably be suffering from ’embarrassment of riches’ syndrome. I just made that syndrome, but I bet someone out there has it.
Rykiel Homme grey jeans
Seeing as Rykiel Homme is closing down, their clothes will make the transition from good piece to collector’s item. Before that transition is made, a lot of it goes on sale. This brings us to these Rykiel Homme jeans.
Asos Ltd 100 Sheepskin Drape Coat
The ASOS ltd 100 collection, their collaboration with designers from London College of Fashion, has been available online since June 16th and most of it has been bought already. Out of the pieces left, the best has to be this Sheepskin drape coat.
When We Were Casuals – for all your Fila, Reebok and, um, deerstalker needs
Now this is something you can be fairly sure nobody else in the pub will be sporting.
American Apparel is now selling vibrators
By now we’ve all heard about Dov Charney’s ‘exotic’ style of business management, so this shouldn’t really come as a surprise – but, alongside the lamé gold leggings and see-through leotards, you’ll soon be able to pick up vibrators at your local American Apparel store.
UniverCity jacket – part of Kanye’s Pastelle line?
Kanye West has been spotted out in another piece of customised finery, this time a ‘UniverCity’ college jacket I suppose inspired by his educationally thematic album titles, complete with Murakami-illustrated bear motif on the back.
Several splashes of colour
I’ve gone on about the splash of colour trend in drips and draps for a good while now and I’ve finally found someone who likes it even more than I do. Men’s Vogue writer Amanda Brooks features a large selection of men past and present who have worked the colourful look. It even features a pre-ugly jumper Bill Cosby looking rather suave in a yellow turtleneck.
Barack Obama Sons of Liberty t-shirt
When you look at Gordon Brown’s face you realise there hasn’t been a politician as t-shirt friendly as Barack Obama in a long while. Add his vague slogans about change, which lend themselves well to t shirt captions and you have a prime candidate for an ironic t-shirt. Sons of Liberty were one of the quickest off the mark with this Back to the Future inspired top.
Lessons from Big Brother 9: how not to wear a suit
With Big Brother set to take over many people’s lives (in the UK) I thought it only fair that I start judging the male housemates style. I had planned to focus on everyone, but Luke really stood out from the crowd.
Brandish Special: Men of Mumbai
In these let few days I have seen a harsh and gripping poverty but also a vibrancy and pride that made for some great sights. This feature is dedicated to the attitude of those dealing with the harsh reality of life. Prepare for home-made man bags, children challenging fashion rules and prints that wouldn’t look out of place on a Burberry runway. There is no insensitivity intended here but an appreciation for the contagious positivity so inspirationally radiated by these young Men of Mumbai.
Keep reading for great street-style shots and a rather phenomenal blend of fabrics, styles and looks.
Butt boosting underwear for men
This is another of those ‘who is actually buying these?’ items that are so bizarre they deserve another look. Apparently there’s a large number of men who feel their derriere is inadequate. That’s prompted Canadian company Bottom’s Up to make padded underwear that boosts your appearance at the back and front.
Sample sale alert!
I have some good news and bad news. The bad news is that the first Valentino sample sale finished yesterday. The good news is that the Secret Sample sale is still on and doesn’t finish until Saturday. They also feature everyone from Vivienne Westwood to Marc Jacobs and all at the usual sample sale discounts of up to 80%.
Trendwatch: Old trends die hard
Remember that T-shirt trend we featured a good while back? It went from Band members to trainers to TV shows (Although no one took me up on my WIre offer) and now they’ve started featuring song lyrics. If you’ve ever wanted to show your appreciation for Andre 3000 and Big Boi in t-shirt form, this Rocksmith tee is the way to do it.
Fashion nightmare #1: Lycra
Warning: This post contains a link to the Daily Mail website. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Famous model/serial WAG Danielle Lloyd has been pictured out with one of the Gladiators on their way to tacky nightclub Faces (which I live a stones throw away from, I’ll have you know). I originally tried to ignore this but this picture is so horrific I had to share it with you all.
Is pink one of the colours of the season?
In the London paper today, they’ve stated that silvery grey is the colour of the season. I doubt it will be, due to grey shirts showing sweat more prominently than other colours but that’s not my main steak with this article. More problematic is the colour they’re teaming it up with – pink. Back when men started wearing pink, it was a statement of a softer side, the kind of man who cries watching Sex and the City before going back to chop some wood and crush a beer can on his forehead.
How tight is too tight?
Victoria Beckham would not approve of this new trend. Apparently fans of Mustang skinline jeans (a brand that makes Cheap Monday jeans look baggy) are filming themselves in their skin tight jeans and posting it on youtube. I’m not sure whether this is a hoax, fetish or trend – but for argument’s sake let’s call it the latter.
Top 20 Cannes fashion moments
Men.Style.com has a retrospective of its top 20 Cannes fashion moments. Most of the fashion moments come from the 60’s and 70’s, the 80’s has two looks, the 90’s has three and the noughties only get one, that being Brad Pitt’s Tom Ford suit.
Yoko Devereaux SupermarketHQ sale
Sometimes a bargain is too good to pass on, regardless of what season the clothing’s designed for. This Yoko Devereaux double breasted cardigan is currently going for $32, which is 75% off the retail price. Other bargains are this trench coat for $49 and this Queen print shirt for $17.
Brandish Poll: High-Waisted Jeans
What a surreal start to the week- trawling Topman for a Monday Morning boost, I was hoping for a few print t-shirts but instead discovered the horror of the new ‘Premium High Waist Slim Jeans.‘ Yes, that’s right; after drop-crotch and MC Hammer (I don’t actually want to touch this) denim, we are being given the chance to try out the latest jean trend. The high waist has failed to get women on side à la skinny jeans simply because they are impossible to wear. In indigo, 100% cotton and selling for £45, I am left wondering if it is really worth the risk. What do you think?
See our poll after the jump.
