When you describe a new brand to someone, it’s usually best that they’re name is short and rolls off the tongue. Clearly this rulebook wasn’t handed down to Troglodyte Homunculus, who seem intent on making any admirers of their work sound like idiots – just try and say it out loud in a conversation.
Electronic Poet S/S threaded hoody
It might be a bit of anachronism taking a look at hoodies when we’re now well into Spring and talking about short shorts. But let’s not forget this is the UK, so constant balmy weather is never a certainty at this time of the year – global warming or nay.
Electronic Poet have produced the perfect S/S piece with their threaded hoody. Even layered up against the rain, it’s airy enough as to not leave you feeling muggy and uncomfortable.
APC denim bermuda shorts
With the sun finally coming out, the short shorts debate looks set to continue. I’m not a fan of short shorts, but I despise three quarter lengths and cargo shorts even more. My ideal shorts would be a dark colour, well fitted and stopping just above the kneecap. APC – whose madras range we’ve featured before – have a pair of denim Bermuda shorts that tick all those boxes.
Fit – The most important factor in clothing
You know when you want to say something and someone else describes more eloquently than you ever could? That’s how I feel about Simon Crompton’s article on how fit is the most important factor in men’s style. If you haven’t read it for whatever reason, basically it states that too many male fashion followers put too much importance on brands and not enough on fit and design.
3.1 Phillip Lim Cardigan
You can’t guarantee much, but I can guarantee that cardigans aren’t at the top of your shopping list right now. Nevertheless, I think this 3.1 Phillip Lim cardigan will catch your eye even if you had no intentions of buying knitwear this season.
Filippa K check shirt
With big bold checks being all the rage, it can be easy to forget about the subtler check shirt. This Filippa K shirt has checks so small they’re near invisible from a distance. The matching options with this shirt are vast, as it’s smart enough to wear to a (casual) office and could also fit in well with the nautical theme, should you be wishing to take on that look this summer.
Victor Glemaud S/S 2008
Considering Victor Glemaud’s first collection was only Spring/Summer 2007, he’s garnered a remarkable amount of attention in a very short time. It’s no coincidence that he was a publicist before he moved into the fashion world, although he also worked as a design advisor for Paco Rabanne for a year before opening his own line in July 2006.
ASOS and Topman gear up for the summer
Always ready to captialise on the mass appeal, both ASOS and Topman have setup up ‘festival fashion’ departments on their respective e-stores.
Fila Gold check shorts
The plaid on plaid trend is still for the fashion forward few so it hasn’t had many takers yet. Due to the difficulty in pulling this off, it’s unlikely that the trend will ever take off like V-neck jumpers did. With that said, there are still some great check items to be found, like these Fila Gold check shorts (£45).
Hammer pants 2008 style?
Apparently, these jeans aren’t a joke. I’m tempted to think that this may be a PR stunt. No one could actually think that these look good. Seeing as they’re being sold at Karmaloop (although it states that it’s out of stock whenever you try to look at them) Soulful Commandoe clearly did.
John Lawrence Sullivan S/S08
John Lawrence Sullivan is the creation of Japanese designer Arashi Yanagawa. After spending 4 years as a professional boxer, Yanagawa started John Lawrence Sullivan – the name of the first bare knuckle heavyweight champion of the world. A self taught designer, his influences range from boxing to aviation.
Streetwear labels popping up in GTA IV
In its neverending quest to be the greatest game since records began, Grand Theft Auto IV continues to throw up little surprises.
Gar-De Leather Jackets
With people like the Apprentice’s recently fired Kevin Shaw showing how leather jackets can look bad, it’s becoming more important to get a tailored jacket regardless of what material it’s made from. Gar-De are a New York design collective who aim to ‘reinvent the highest quality materials into innovative designs’. They chose leather for their debut collection and focused exclusively on it.
Trends: Watch & Wear- Navy SEAL Zeal
List any of this season’s It-items and chances are they are water-related or wave-inspired. Yes, that means you boat shoe, loafer, plimsoll, striped tee and navy (hello!) blue shirt.
The mood is light yet determined and spray-in-the-face cool. Imagine sea-side escapades (emphasis on the imagine) and sand between your toes as you loosely raise that striped knit from your oversized Jil Sander mesh-holdall.
Topman Lens Range on sale
Regret, Disappointment, A sense of ‘I wish I could have done something’. These are all feelings you get when you miss a sale. Topman have tried to sneakily put the entire Lens range on sale and hoped no one noticed. That means £45 Mjolk trench coats, £15 Material Boy t-shirts and £25 Carolyn Massey shirts all slipping between our fingers.
Robert Geller S/S 2008
German Born, New York based designer Robert Geller is a very new kid on the block. His label only launched in A/W 07, after working at Marc Jacobs, revamping Cloak and creating a women’s wear range called Harald. The following sentence will sound a little odd, but I’m going to look at a S/S 2008 range while we’re actually in the same season.
The Apprentice anti-style award
Newspapers and Magazines (including me) have all fallen in love with Mad Men’s sense of style. While no one (bar the BNP) wants any other values in the show to return, the fashion sense displayed by the men in that show is constantly returned to. And from watching the Apprentice, it’s clear to see why.
*****L Bathrobe
If Brandish were a political party our key campaigning issues would be madras shirts, short shorts and sleepwear. Consider this post a campaign for sleepwear. If long johns are a step too far for you to wear outside the house, then you might want to start on something simple. Like this *****L Bathrobe (€120).
Sale alert: Energie purple cardigan
If you shop like a man then you’ll be glad to know that this Energie cardigan has gone on sale. Purple hasn’t infiltrated the menswear market like it has the women’s but that’s all the more reason to get into it.
Blood, Sweat and T-shirts review
The premise of ‘Blood, Sweat and T-shirts‘ is simple; get six fashion fanatics – who all seem to be doing their hardest to be unlikeable – send them off to a sweatshop and see how they cope. Do they crumble or do they start sewing 1000 garments a minute with one hand tied behind their back?
