This outfit is based around my fashion task de jour (as if I could make that sound any more pretentious!) That task would be to make tasselled loafers wearable while avoiding the Ralph Lauren, polo-player trap so closely associated with this (in)famous yet iconic shoe.
I added items that were almost too pop-y for their own good; a binary watch, a Cassette-belt, a Madonna/80s idol tee from and a pair of Alexander McQueen cropped trousers from Oki-Ni.
This is a blend of vintage and modern that I would be more than willing to wear!

Autumn is coming, the leaves are beginning to drop, the nights a drawing in and I’m retrieving my knocked off Burberry scarves (yes- scarves, three in fact: navy nova check, grey nova check and the classic beige nova check, don’t try to hide your jealousy) from the back of the wardrobe.
So what does this mean for us real folk who don’t go to the borders to paint the changing of the seasons? Well it means we go out and buy new outfits of course! Not everything lasts a year in fashion so don’t be relying on last years wardrobe to see you through this one- I feel a men.stlye.com buying guide coming on- and here it is, the men.style.com buying guide for Autumn 08. Like most buying guides from men.style.com many of the pieces featured are expensive and unaccessible but there are cheaper alternatives out there and lets face it, it’s a buying guide not the gospel.
Jump through for my top 3 from the list.

American Apparel, the brand synonymous with androgyny and men in skintight jeans, has just launched their Unisex Oxford Shirt. I have three sisters and I’m no stranger to borrowing the odd jumper (actually, that would be reclaiming,) and I have in past borrowed Ralph Lauren shirts and vintage blazers for a better fit and a slimmer silhouette. Russell Brand, a man who walks on to a talk-show in a jersey tunic dress and girl’s jeans from Topshop but still manages to be a sex god, would be a great example of unisex dressing at its best but what do you think? Is it worth the sartorial risk when you might see a girl in the same tee as you?
Would you go Unisex- vote in our poll after the jump!

Mark Ronson has always been a tiptop fashion star and this year has been awash with his sartorial influence. From the stripes and Mod look of early 2008 to the sharp tailoring in kooky fabrics. From the ’50s rock-star (read: Elvis) to the fur-clad aristo-geek.
Now, Ronson is taking it upon himself to lead the way with the trapper-hat wearer, ‘Lightspeed Champion,’ look as first established by our (soon to depart-) Jason Dike. Mark looked great at Vivienne Westwood’s after-show party last night with his fur-lined coat, oversized glasses and slick boots.

As much as I hate label-whores and Louis Vuitton/Gucci-style designs that are made only for the monogram printed across them, I have to admit that my Sartorial ‘id,’ survives vicariously through Kanye West’s ‘Universecity’ blog.
Often, we catch (not very) subtle glimpses of candy-coloured designer goods but sometimes we’re treated to the odd indie-flash buy. Like this ‘Mr P’ t-shirt designed by Tim Lahan. It’s quirky, fun, lighthearted and a piece that you could wear with anything.
Not recommended for those with a fear of pigeons; if that includes you, then I apologise for exposing you to what must surely be like The Ring + The Grudge + The Shining (in pigeon-fearing terms.)

With a new of series of Heroes about to begin, the unfortunate death of Yves Saint Laurent and the number of Clark Kent-y characters about in the most recent blockbusters, my style radar is tuned to the male who’s gauche, awkward and geeky in the best way possible. Think of 1970s art students carrying open sketchbooks around Paris, Isaac Mendez of Heroes lounging around his studio in over-sized chinos and Marc Jacobs around his grunge era (which means big glasses, baggy jumpers and lots of corduroy.) I took a risk with mixing the denim shirt with dark jeans but the two items together are a wearable look that anyone can pull off.
Check out the product details after the jump and see how geeky you can get this winter- Argyle jumper anyone?

Lad Musician are clearly a brand willing to take some risks. For example, take their studded gloves (pictured above). Although it’s a look associated with people who wear new rock boots, it looks surprisingly wearable, although it would look better if it were just polka dots. The other risk is their inclusion of denim jackets.
These jackets are risky not because no-one is wearing. It’s risky because everything who is wears them horrifically, matching them to their denim jeans and looking like rejects from a Bruce Springsteen lookalike competition. I’m not about to call it a comeback, but denim jackets might just be a viable alternative for people looking to change it up from bombers and trench coats. Lad Musician is available from blackbird and the site’s webshop.

In addition to GQ’s well dressed rebel series, they are also hosting a fashion intervention for six men. Realizing there is a world of men who don’t pay any attention to their daily outfits, GQ sent out their fashion editors to upgrade the participant’s style.
The good thing about this article was that it didn’t attempt to change the person’s style, simply upgrading the look with similar clothes, colours and patterns in a much better fit. The bad side was that the ‘after’ looks could have been done just as well with more mid-range items, seeing as a 19 year old estimating contractor isn’t going to buy a Dolce & Gabbana blazer any time soon.

Being the face of a Givenchy fragrance pretty much cements you as a style star (not that I would know but one must work on assumption when speaking of Britney-dating, ex-N*Sync stars!) Well, I was bitterly disappointed in Justin Timberlake’s outfit at the Fashion Rocks concert last week. JT wore a grey blazer from his new ‘William Rast’ range and a pair of hideous turn-up jeans with an odd silk tie- seemingly cut in half.
Is it just me who’s shocked by this lack of style sense? Vote in our poll below!

Fenom’s assault on Denim continues with their now well established collaboration with Levi’s. This seasons offerings are a 207 and a 505 all with the Fenom trademark details such as a new leather patch on the waistband, lining on the rear pocket, zip pocket and of course the Fenom lightening bolts painted on in red. These should be available at select Levi’s dealers soon- possibly by the end of the week.

L’Officiel Hommes has just launched in Singapore and their launch issue is a high-fashion, Dior Homme-loaded festival of sartorial savoir-faire.
By this I mean that we’re given great editorials with the likes of model Cole Mohr, photographer Milan Vukmirovic, and Dior Homme-designer Kris Van Assche directing a 10-page editorial featuring only Dior Homme clothes! The magazine has really pulled out all the stops for this issue and it is hopefully the precedent for a great future.
See after the jump for a full review with pictures from every editorial!

Just last week, Brandish editor Isabelle asked the general fashion public if the waistcoat could ever be worn well. We were subjected to the torture of Boyzone (whose waistcoat crimes can also be seen here,) and then buttered up with stories of white waffle and petrol blue. Now, I’ve created an outfit out of an All Saints waistcoat and looked to Frank Sinatra for tailoring inspiration.

This week’s ‘Love The Look’ sees Joshua Jackson, and boyfriend of Diane Kruger, looking incredibly dapper in a Hollywood screen-star suit. I’m guessing that, by the waistcoat, details and fact that just about every Hollywood man at the moment is hooked, that the suit is by Tom Ford but who care’s about a lack of originality when you’ve made this much effort!
The details are the key: the perfect black buttons, the patent glint of the shoes, the bold bow-tie and silk (yet classy) lapel of the jacket. Joshua was attending the Jaeger-Le Coultre Gala at the 65th Venice Film Festival and while most men would look a bit pants next to a Chanel muse and seasoned-wearer of Dior, Elie Saab and Prada, Jackson proves he’s a worthy sartorial opponent.
