Final Uniqlo +J collection

By Laura on July 25th, 2011

Last month Uniqlo and Jil Sander’s announced that this upcoming fall/winter +J collection will be the last. The two parties have agreed to terminate their relationship which saw the line bring Sander’s classic minimalism to the mass market. As a result there is bound to be plenty of anticipation surrounding the concluding collection, and if the first look is anything to go by, there won’t be any disappointment.

The initial pictures show an interesting combination of traditional tailoring with sportswear. What do you think of the dark jacket paired with a nylon down vests and collared shirts?

Port 1961 SS 2012

By Laura on June 23rd, 2011

This past week at Milan fashion week, Ports 1961 showcased their incredible SS 2012 collection.

The second men’s collection from Ports 1961 was very polished and tailored, as one would expect, drawing on the spirit of Classicism. Taking inspiration from the clean forms and elongated silhouettes found in the master-works of Brancusi. The collection focused on a slim and fitted silhouette with elongated double-breasted blazers and sleeveless trench coats of modern and minimal sensibility. There were also a lot of transparent lightweight knits, cotton blends and silks in clinical white, beige, midnight blue and graphic prints.

Lyle & Scott A/W 2011 collection

By Laura on June 23rd, 2011

If you live in the UK, you will have no doubt be familiar with Lyle & Scott and their distinctive yellow eagle logo. Lyle & Scott have spent 130 years honing their unique take on British casual sportswear, using traditional materials such as cashmere. The brand that was once synonymous with golfers, has however managed to stay current and their latest collection is no different.

Earlier this week Lyle & Scott got in touch with Brandish to give us a sneak peak at the A/W collection. We love the preppy knits combined with a street-savvy urbanite style.

By Laura on June 19th, 2011

A few months ago I stumbled into the amazing Present store in Shoreditch, and quickly fell in love with their collection.

That love was totally reignited when I saw their lookbook which highlights their current summer 2011 collection. As the release says “The Knitwear is produced in Scotland using local wools complemented by handmade Shirting produced using the finest British Textiles. This edition of garments are produced in limited numbers, exclusively for the PRESENT store.”

If your in Shoreditch pop in and check it out (their coffee is pretty amazing too) otherwise you can check out their collection here

It hardly feels as though we have had a summer, but Burberry have already unveiled their Autumn 2011 campaign looks.

Featuring a number of British actors, models and musicians, Chief Creative Officer Christopher Bailey, stated he was “inspired by iconic British portraits and our own archive campaigns from the late 1960s of Jean Shrimpton using her trench coat to shelter herself from the poetic and romantic British weather.”

From the North with Love by Stussy

By Laura on May 17th, 2011

Here is another collection I wish was available in the UK. Stussy Canada has drawn upon the history of the West Coast and the First Nations culture there, to create a special capsule dubbed “From the North with Love.” The collection includes tees, sweats and special woven shirts which represent the perfect layering components for Canadian weather.
Unfortunately for us though the collection is only available through Stussy in Vancouver and Toronto.

Opening Ceremony x Warriors of Radness “Beach Crew!” collection

By Laura on May 17th, 2011

I love the fresh, day- faded pastels of Opening Ceremony x Warriors of Radness “Beach Crew!” Collection. However, that said I can’t help but feel these shorts will only work on super skinny model types. Unlike some, I have no issues with men wearing shorts… but it is all about the length, and well short shorts just aren’t a good look.

Cape Madras long sleeve summer shirts

By Laura on May 17th, 2011

Cape Madras have just released their “perfect summer attire” longsleeve shirt. I know those are two words you don’t usually see together, however Madras insists it is made from “the best warm weather fabric ever created.”

The fabric apparently has a great history behind it and gets its name from the “English name of the city of Chennai, India with their ‘Madrasi checks’.” The Cape Madras’ shirt has a button-down collar and shirttail hem. It’s made of 100% cotton patch madras and is offered in two colors: Trundy and Richmond LS.

GANT Rugger’s Pre-Autumn 2011 collection

By Laura on May 17th, 2011

GANT is one of those brands I often forget about, but really should keep on my radar. The GANT Rugger’s Pre-Autumn 2011 collection is a perfect example of why. Their 3rd quarter offering, includes the classic ivy-life inspired wears we have come to expect. However, this latest incarnation are slightly more tailored for a stronger fit.

The collection delivers online now and there are definitely a few pieces you could start wearing now.

Thaylor launches new online community

By Laura on May 9th, 2011

Here at Brandish we can’t get enough of Montreal’s newest online hub, Thaylor, aimed at bringing the creative community well designed products, from sneakers to speakers.

Like many online retailers, the Thaylor’s web-based shop doubles as an editorial platform, to help shoppers find inspiration. However, what makes this site great is that the editorial is not entirely about driving sales. The Life section for example showcases the thoughts of talented athletes, writers and creative thinkers alike. The Market section serves as Thaylor’s online shop. Here you can pick up clothing and products by brands such as Côte et Ciel, Makr, Joey Roth, Richartz, Hummel and Alena.

Currently the site is only available to our friends in Canada and The U.S, but fingers crossed it will come to the UK soon.

Levi’s Commuter Cycling Series

By Laura on May 5th, 2011

Levi’s latest collection aimed at cyclists has been creating a lot of buzz this week and it is not hard to see why.

Their debut cycling line draws on their workwear heritage, while incorporating technical functionality. One of my favourite pieces from the collection is the Trucker Jacket, based on a 1967 design. It’s long cut with a slight drop tail flatters most body types and is perfect for cycling in. The jacket is well thought out and designed with the wearer in mind, from the angled front pockets for easy access, the extra fabric in the underarm for added mobility, to the lip on the cuff to partially cover hands while riding. Like all the pieces in the line, the jacket also features antimicrobial odor-protection and reflective accents for visibility.

Another key detail to point out is the Nanosphere Technology, which is used across the line. This application was developed in partnership with Swiss fabric brand Schoeller Technologies and makes materials water and dirt resistant, increasing the lifespan of the material.

In addition to the Trucker Jacket, Levi’s have also created the 511 Skinny Commuter pants (available in elasticized denim or khaki). What makes these pants unique is the loop built into the waistband for or carrying around your u-lock, and the reflective tape on the inner seam to provide increased safety at night. The reinforced crotch is also a nice touch that should save you from regular trips to the tailor.

If you are a cyclist in need of a new jacket or jeans definitely check out this collection.

Adam Kimmel Bandana Roll-Up Sleeve Shirts inspired by Snoop Dogg

By Laura on May 3rd, 2011

Personally I have never really thought of Snoop Dogg as much of a fashion icon, but that is exactly where Adam Kimmel got his inspiration for his latest series of roll-up shirts. Utilizing a custom bandana print reflective of Snoop’s personal style, the shirts feature several different cashmere/cotton designs incorporated into the roll-up part of both T-shirts and button-downs. Overall creating an refreshing take on the classic T. Shirts are available through Por Vocacao.
