Clothing, Designer Spotlight, Sales
By admin on June 27th, 2008
Sales are getting larger by the minute which, depending on your financial situation, may be a great excuse to blow your earnings or some more online window shopping. The Matches sale is the largest yet and to accommodate its size, I’ve decided to focus on a designer at a time. This post will focus on Phillip Lim. Check after the jump for info on these items.

Clothing, Sales

With most sales selling out within hours these days, it’s refreshing to see that the Men a la mode sale still has stock an entire week after it started. There’s so many pieces on sale, you’ll probably be suffering from ‘embarrassment of riches’ syndrome. I just made that syndrome, but I bet someone out there has it.
To ease your pain, I’ve decided on the 4 best items in the sale (pictured above) – read all about them after the jump.

Clothing, Designer Spotlight, Jeans & Trousers

Seeing as Rykiel Homme is closing down, their clothes will make the transition from good piece to collector’s item. Before that transition is made, a lot of it goes on sale. This brings us to these Rykiel Homme jeans.
These jeans look like a toned down version of those radioactive Dior Homme jeans that Kanye West put up on his blog a while back. The muted colouring is still sharp enough to stand out from other jeans and they’re also about £200 cheaper than the Dior version. You can get these from the corner for £84.

Clothing, Coats & Jackets

The ASOS ltd 100 collection, their collaboration with designers from London College of Fashion, has been available online since June 16th and most of it has been bought already. Out of the pieces left, the best has to be this Sheepskin drape coat.
Most sheepskin coats stink of 70′s TV cops and John Motson, but this one manages to avoid that smell completely – instead giving off a strong fashion forward whiff. There’s no doubt that this coat is extravagant and would be too much for some people, but it retains a wearability that other fur coats just don’t have. The only downside is the £350 price tag, but if you can afford it then it would make a great standout piece.

Say what you like about 80s football hooligans, but even while they were battering people’s heads in with metal poles, they had style. Or that’s the popular perception nowadays anyway – I’m sure they couldn’t ALL have been clad in Lacoste. Of course we don’t call this style of dress hooliwear, or whatever – it’s “terrace fashion”, sweetheart.
When We Were Casuals is a site that caters to the gentleman who likes his Fila, Adidas and Barbour gear. Yes, you can find Reebok Classics there, but you can also get some slightly more unusual bits and bobs – howsabout a Christy’s Deerstalker with silk lining? You know it’s just the thing you need to finish off your outfit. Only £40, too.

Kanye West has been spotted out in another piece of customised finery, this time a ‘UniverCity’ college jacket I suppose inspired by his educationally thematic album titles, complete with Murakami-illustrated bear motif on the back.
Speculation is leading as to whether the jacket is a part of his much anticipated clothing line Pastelle, which has been ‘coming soon’ for about two years. The only concrete releases coming so far are in the form of an eyewear linkup with Ksubi in October which will probably see a resurgance in those bastard shutter sunglasses.
So far, so Pharrell. The other ‘best dressed man in rap’ has already had his hand in sunglasses collaborations, letterman jackets and trainers with his Billionaire Boys Club line. It’ll be interesting to see if West will try his hand at some original pieces (a cut-and-sew line?) with Pastelle.

I’ve gone on about the splash of colour trend in drips and draps for a good while now and I’ve finally found someone who likes it even more than I do. Men’s Vogue writer Amanda Brooks features a large selection of men past and present who have worked the colourful look. It even features a pre-ugly jumper Bill Cosby looking rather suave in a yellow turtleneck.
If you can’t be bothered to click that link, then I’ve featured my favourite looks after the jump.

When you look at Gordon Brown’s face you realise there hasn’t been a politician as t-shirt friendly as Barack Obama in a long while. Add his vague slogans about change, which lend themselves well to t shirt captions and you have a prime candidate for an ironic t-shirt. Sons of Liberty were one of the quickest off the mark with this Back to the Future inspired top.
If you love the 80′s and Barack Obama, then you’re probably looking for your credit card right now, so there’s no need to convince you. Just bear in mind that if Barack suffers a George McGovern type defeat, then these shirts will become cruel jokes.

With Big Brother set to take over many people’s lives (in the UK) I thought it only fair that I start judging the male housemates style. I had planned to focus on everyone, but Luke really stood out from the crowd.
If you’re not on a first name basis with the contestant or – god forbid – don’t watch Big Brother, Luke’s a student who is a big fan of suits. However the suits he wears are the type that most students would have – oversized ugly ones. I appreciate the effort, but he hasn’t pulled the look off (see for yourself after the jump) instead of the powerful young man he no doubt envisions in his head, he looks like he stole his older brother’s suit.

After visiting Mumbai I am more convinced than ever that fashion is one of those things that unites the World. In these let few days I have seen a harsh and gripping poverty but also a vibrancy and pride that made for some great sights. Prepare for home-made man bags, children challenging fashion rules and prints that wouldn’t look out of place on a Burberry runway. There is no insensitivity intended here but an appreciation for the contagious positivity so inspirationally radiated by these young Men of Mumbai.
Keep reading for great street-style shots and a rather phenomenal blend of fabrics, styles and looks.

This is another of those ‘who is actually buying these?’ items that are so bizarre they deserve another look. Apparently there’s a large number of men who feel their derriere is inadequate. That’s prompted Canadian company Bottom’s Up to make padded underwear that boosts your appearance at the back and front.
The sizes are labelled in American football terms, ranging from quarterback to fullback. Quarterback is quite normal looking whilst fullback looks like you’ve cut a basketball in half and stuffed it down the back of your trousers. More worrying than this is the front end of this underwear, which is basically a padded codpiece. If you’ve always been envious of Cameo, these are the pants for you.

Remember that T-shirt trend we featured a good while back? It went from Band members to trainers to TV shows (Although no one took me up on my WIre offer) and now they’ve started featuring song lyrics. If you’ve ever wanted to show your appreciation for Andre 3000 and Big Boi in t-shirt form, this Rocksmith tee is the way to do it.
Even if you were a major fan of Outkast, you’d be forgiven for not immediately knowing where these lyrics came from. Heck, I didn’t know until I listened to the song again. Given the amount of knowledge needed to get the reference – who still listens to ATLiens? – this amounts to the highest form of musical snobbery. If you’re into that kind of thing, then you can get this from Karmaloop.

Warning: This post contains a link to the Daily Mail website. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Famous model/serial WAG Danielle Lloyd has been pictured out with one of the Gladiators on their way to tacky nightclub Faces (which I live a stones throw away from, I’ll have you know). I originally tried to ignore this but this picture is so horrific I had to share it with you all.
I’m not sure why certain men feel that everyone has to know that they visit the gym, but this lycra as outerwear fad needs to be nipped in the bud. It’s the clothing equivalent of yelling ‘I [ump iron!’ There are far more subtle ways of displaying your physique without resorting to wearing gymwear on a night out.
