If you have tree trunk thighs or long legs then you’ll find it hard to find jeans that fit exactly the way you want them to. Things would all be so much easier if someone would customise your jeans for you before you bought them. But who would do such a thing? If this were a TV show, at this point ‘one man denim workshop’ Ande Whall would burst through a wall and say an unfunny line. But it isn’t so I’ll just have to link to their site.
DWS Menswear Sample Sale
In London? Still have money in your account? In you answered yes to both these questions, then you have no reason to miss out on this DWS Menswear sample sale. If you’ve forgiven Evisu for flooding the market back in the late 90’s then you can pick up some of their items alongside Vivienne Westwood, Hardy Amies and Hugo Boss amongst others. If there’s a better reason to go on a pasta diet for the rest of the month, feel free to let me know.
A.P.C. release madras inspired S/S line
As regular Brandish readers will already know, we’ve been on a madras shirt offensive in the run up to spring/summer.
COS in Monocle magazine
Now that COS is a success, with three more stores set to open this year, it’s nice to look back on what they wanted to achieve and whether they did so. Thankfully, this Monocle.com video allows you to do just that. For those who haven’t read Monocle magazine, it’s basically an international current affairs magazine with a website that has clearly been designed with the magazine, not as an afterthought.
Pyjamas outside of the house – good look or am I going crazy?
You know when you’ve become so accustomed to something that things that should look odd don’t anymore? That’s how I’m starting to feel with the pyjamas look. Wearing your pyjamas outside of the house should make you look like an extra from One flew over the Cuckoo’s nest – instead I’m thinking that it’s quite a wearable look. As long as you don’t stray too far from your house.
Acne Jeans – Why settle for less?
Why do people put such a low price limit when jeans shopping? Don’t give me the price nonsense either. If you spend £50 on jeans which develop holes after 3 months, then you’ll need to replace them. Do this 3 or 4 times a year and you’ll spend £150-200 on the same awful pair of jeans. So why not save that money up and get these Acne Jeans?
Dior silver suit – Yay or Nay?
First things first – why are the pictures on Yoox.com of such poor quality? They make Asos.com’s pictures look like a Rankin masterpiece. I wouldn’t usually complain about these things, but when it comes to this Dior Homme silver suit, you need high quality pictures to make a decision.
Pop Quiz: Which one of these jackets is Dior Homme?
Answer: Neither. Although these leathers bear a striking resemblance to those that have featured in Dior Homme collections over the past couple of years, they are in fact the work of Black Scissors, leathercrafters from South Wales who are increasingly building a reputation for their custom tailoring.
Denim on Denim – It can be done
For eons, I’ve had the denim on denim look as the sole preserve of builders and creepy men in clubs. But seeing this picture at the Sartorialist has changed my mind for good. Although it’s best left for the colder months, the look can be recreated with this LVC 1936 type 1 Jacket.
People still willing to form ridiculous queues, Bape celebrate
During the peak of ‘hype’ fever a couple of years ago, it wasn’t anything to see a queue of kids snaking round Soho queuing for a new Bape release.
Unconditional: new S/S hoodies in at ASOS
First things first, try to ignore how awful the product shots are in the photo, ASOS still haven’t learnt how to take decent photos.
Fred Perry recruit &Son for the latest Blank Canvas release
We’ve already told you about the latest Weller/FP link up, and here’s a preview of Fred Perry are collaborating again for another iteration in the Blank Canvas line. The latest contributors to the project are London based collective &Son, founded by stylists Simon Foxton and Nick Griffiths.
CBGBs site re-opens as a John Varvatos boutique
CBGB, the legendary birthplace of the Ramones, Talking Heads, Blondie etc., made international news when it closed two years ago. But, to the inevitable sound of purists lamenting, the Manhattan site has re-opened… with John Varvatos’ name over the front door.
OKI-NI x Passarella Death Squad ‘city landmarks’ collaboration
Passarella Death Squad, brainchild of Danny Broddle and Emilie Albisser, has been steadily making a name for itself since 2004, combining carnal graphics and lewd (probably) continental soundbites with cotton imported directly from Japan.
Fred Perry X Paul Weller
Paul Weller and Fred Perry are so deeply
linked that you wonder why he hasn’t just gave up the music stuff and just
started working for them full time. It’s not like anyone wants to hear a new
album from him. This collection of polo shirts, due for release in
June, are pretty much what we’ve come to expect from their collaborations, in a
good way.
Whyred finally have an online store
Whyred produced one of the best looking pea coats in the jacket’s 300 year history a couple of seasons ago (FACT.) After ringing everywhere from Sweden to US to find one, and coming back empty handed, I was enraptured to hear they’ve now set up a webstore. Which should make things a lot easier this winter.
