We’ve already told you about the latest Weller/FP link up, and here’s a preview of Fred Perry are collaborating again for another iteration in the Blank Canvas line. The latest contributors to the project are London based collective &Son, founded by stylists Simon Foxton and Nick Griffiths.
Apparently the designs are based on cubist camouflage patterns commissioned by the British navy during both World Wars, nicknamed ‘Dazzle’. (Those of you who bought that Hardy Blechman book on camo can actually put it to good use now.)

CBGB, the legendary birthplace of the Ramones, Talking Heads, Blondie etc., made international news when it closed two years ago. But, to the inevitable sound of purists lamenting, the Manhattan site has re-opened… with John Varvatos’ name over the front door.
Varvatos bought the club to save it from becoming “a deli, or a Bank of America”, and, making sure to retain its historical significance, not too much inside has changed. Graffiti and 40 year old flyers cover the walls – but we’re not sure what’s happened to the infamous toliet-without-a-door.
As well as his own collection, Varvatos will be selling vintage vinyl and audio hardware and is creating a limited-edition diffusion line ’315 Bowery’ specially for the store.

Passarella Death Squad, brainchild of Danny Broddle and Emilie Albisser, has been steadily making a name for itself since 2004, combining carnal graphics and lewd (probably) continental soundbites with cotton imported directly from Japan.
Their first collaboration with OKI-NI has produced some of PDS’ best prints to date; the usual sexploitation schtick married with a couple of well-known landmarks. The Paris shirt looks like it’ll be high up the list of things you need to have this summer.

If you’re into being ironic – and who isn’t?
- then you’ll love this ‘Oh
Yoko’ tee by Just Another Rich Kid. It’s perfect for people who want to
reference the beatles via the medium of t-shirt, which is officially the
smartest method of communication.
Yoko Ono isn’t the first choice for t-shirt
and her name isn’t seen on one unless it’s followed by ‘ruined the Beatles’.
Despite this, the shirt looks great and would be good for any Yoko Ono fans
(which are as easy to find as the Loch Ness Monster and people who watch
Emmerdale). It costs £48.99 and is available from Elements.

Paul Weller and Fred Perry are so deeply linked that you wonder why he hasn’t just gave up the music stuff and just started working for them full time. It’s not like anyone wants to hear a new album from him. This collection of polo shirts, due for release in June, are pretty much what we’ve come to expect from their collaborations, in a good way.
With these shirts, it’s the details that count. The detail on the neck manages to make it stand out whilst still looking like a polo shirt. If you’re absolutely dying to get your hands on these, you can register at the Fred Perry website to get them a full 72 hours before everyone else does.

When did this happen then?
Whyred produced one of the best looking pea coats in the jacket’s 300 year history a couple of seasons ago (FACT.) After ringing everywhere from Sweden to US to find one, and coming back empty handed, I was enraptured to hear they’ve now set up a webstore. Which should make things a lot easier this winter.
Classic Swedish modernist design, Whyred is all about simple shapes and clean lines.
Part of their S/S 08 collection is up available to buy already, including this shawl neck sweater (£135)
This way to the Whyred e-shop…

Clothing, Designer Spotlight

Out of show season, it gets just that bit harder to predict the trends. However, in typical fashion, the industry moves on; someone gets a haircut, a designer does a high-street collaboration, Amy Winehouse is paid $1 million to do a Louis Vuitton gig. In the case of April, we celebrate the 75th anniversary of Lacoste.
René Lacoste turned up at tennis tournaments dressed almost as good as he played and it was from a bet on a crocodile skin suitcase that the famous Lacoste logo came about. This trend report is about the stylish ‘Public School’ look that came about as a result of Mr Lacoste’s personal style. Prepare yourself for a whole new type of playground mafia.

If you’ve been inspired by Cheap Monday’s
Kotsym range but can’t wait until they decide to bring the collection into
stores, then you’ll love this Endovanera
cropped jacket. It has a fit similar to the Cheap Monday suit and is made
of 100% Pima cotton, which will make it a joy to wear. Well, as much of a joy
as wearing a suit can be. I’m not promising an orgasmic experience here.
Like any self respecting person, you’ll
avoid the light wash jeans/dark blazer jacket combo and instead opt for the
black jeans combo, which makes it look a lot more distinguished. The jacket is
available from Revolve clothing and costs $462.

We’ve mentioned Diet Butcher Slim Skin on
Brandish before, but now you can actually buy their items online, we feel their
pieces are worth another look. If you like the look of sheer fabrics on the
catwalk but are worried about getting beaten up by idiots, this layered
t-shirt is a great way of dipping your toes into the trend.
The sheer layer of the tee is detachable
and can therefore be matched with any number of items (as demonstrated by
StyleSalvage) making the sheer fabric quite wearable – something you’d never
call sheer fabrics seeing how it was worn on catwalks. These are available from
Blackbird and cost $245.

In theory, everything about this Lad Musician shirt
shouldn’t work. (1) it’s short-sleeved (2)it’s multiple shades of blue and (3)
It’s a short sleeved shirt. This (rather weak) theory doesn’t hold up once you
look at the shirt, which looks great despite all the things it has going
against it.
The different shades of blue look great
because they haven’t gone completely crazy with it. The sleeves are the same
colour and the collar is the same shade as the left side of the shirt, giving
it more of a ‘frontman of a band’ look rather than a ‘cut up pieces of
different shirts and stitched them together’ look. The only downside of this
top is that you have to be in Japan to buy it.

Poor Daniel Bedingfield- he crooned about his ability to be James Dean and next thing he knew he was blown out of the entertainment water by his own sister.
One thing that you will often hear fashionistos refer to is the latest ‘future classic.’ I have a problem with this term because despite its easy applicability I believe it is impossible to predict what will become a classic, an icon, a materialistic pleasure that will go on to represent an entire generation. James Dean filled this gap and from the word rebel he was the epitome of youthful cool, pulling denim off with tremendous aplomb.

This shirt from Rykiel Homme is perfect for the season. Dark with a touch of colour it is fresh and non-fussy as well as being a quirky classic. From the über stylish Start Boutique, it would honestly work with just about any item. 100% cotton with stripes of black, white, grey, blue, lilac and green it also features a ribbed collar and sleeves and could be unisex with its balance of masculine and feminine tones. I would style it with white skinny jeans, the gorgeous blue brogues Richard posted about (please be released!,) a vintage velvet blazer and my silver watch. This is a label I definitely have my eye on. T-Shirt, £99.50, Start Boutique
