If, for some bizarre reason, you decided to
write a list of all the labels you expected to bring out trenches built for
spring, I bet Lee wouldn’t even feature on your list. If they did feature on
your pointless list, then they’d be way down the bottom, after Nike or
something.
But guess what? They’ve only gone and made
a beige
trench coat. I know. I’m as shocked as you are. I’m surprised that more
national newspapers aren’t covering this. But I digress. This coat is perfect
for spring due to the light material and beige colouring, which lends itself to
any number of outfit combinations. The coat costs £105 and is available from
Elements.

From Marc Jacobs to Topman, McQ to Uniqlo, short shorts have undoubtedly secured their place as the menswear item of the season – and possibly the year. If I said they needed an adopter than Brandish is the orphanage. We have given you examples of short shorts in a spectrum of colours, fabrics and prints and Jason even took it to a political platform!
If politics is your thing, these PVC shorts from Ute Ploier are the David Cameron of this trend (and by that I don’t mean they have their own cringy webcast or a penchant for innocent smoothies.) Quirky, original and edgy these shorts would be perfect for night with a crisp white shirt and dove grey blazer or for day with a plain white t-shirt, raspberry American Eagle jumper and white plimsolls. Most of all just relish in the fact that you can wear PVC short shorts and still be in fashion.

Why do writers (myself included) challenge
your masculinity every time something like sheer shorts are on the runway? It’s
always ‘go on if you dare, if you think you’re man enough’ ad nauseam (I’ve
done this many a time, so I’m just as guilty as anyone else). The reason this occurred to me is because I
was tempted to follow a similar theme with this Reiss
trench coat.
But it’s not really a test of your
masculinity to wear a sky blue piece. People wear sky blue shirts and cardigans
all the time, so why not coats? The real test would be if you wanted to pay
£265 for an item that has a bit of a limited shelf life.

If you missed the bulk of the Topman sale (and if you’re just finding out now, you’ve definitely missed it) then ASOS have a sale that hasn’t sold out yet. Although it might have by the time you’ve finished reading this sentence. If you haven’t realised, Time is of the essence when it comes to sales.
So to save you precious site browsing time, I’ve come up with a best items in the sale list, saving you about 30 minutes. You can thank me later.

“Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” If good old Coco Chanel was right (which really isn’t a question) then there is really no reason to feel as guilty as I do about desiring these pricey PJs from Paul Smith. Prepare yourself now for some major alliteration.

Since the beginning of time, life, and our own existence, man has been fascinated with choice. From peace protests to monumental civil rights movements, we have always had a taste for the mish-mash aspect of life. This obsession with accessibility has been translated onto the season’s catwalks, designers showed a mixture of fabrics and styles to form a collage of culture and a sartorial storyboard of their travels.
From Dries Van Noten to Miu Miu, this was a look that designers embraced and with its increasing popularity among the fash-pack it is one that I’m sure will make a splash in the coming months.

Recently, my colleague Jason posted on t-shirts from Raw Power that featured celebrities with painted faces and mug-shot style profiles. Now, Topman has picked up on the look and began creating copies for prices more attractive to shoppers. Don’t be mistaken- the tees are hardly cheap but what’s £20 between fashionistos?
My personal favourite is this Blondie-print t-shirt but other examples feature Marc Bolan in a Glam-rock red. With crew-neck collar and made from 100% cotton these t-shirts are a real find and can be worn as a backdrop for greater things or as the main highlight of an outfit. Colour injection or bad-day ease, this is an item that in true Topman-style remains wearable but stylish. What else could you ask for in a t-shirt?

I know a guy who has a huge collection of novelty t-shirts. So often, I have been the victim of that ‘I’m With Stupid’ tee and it seems that every other day is chance for an airing of the Pac-Man castlist. However annoying, the t-shirts work as a great icebreaker and for some reason never lose their original wit. For this week’s sartorial desire, I went on a quest for one of these t-shirts and discovered a label called ‘Goodie Two Sleeves.’ With a great website, wide range of styles, witty logos and boys and girls collections- these tees would make brilliant presents and even better pick-me-ups (hint, hint any generous reader.) Compared to the usual Lanvin trainers and Mulberry baggage, this week’s WISHLIST item is also relatively cheap at around £10 for each t-shirt. Okay, I said relatively.

When I opened Sunday Times Style’s latest male issue, I came upon a great editorial called ‘Man Alive.’ It focuses on shoes and suits but the contents are elevated by Lucy Ewing’s styling and Paul Bliss’ photography.
Among an issue containing Kate Moss semi-naked on a beach and Clive Owen in semi-shadow, it is testament to its brilliance that the editorial made the front cover of the magazine. Particular highlights included the ginger model leaping excitedly in the air. Clothing ranges from Giorgio Armani to Miu Miu and the models have been picked to represent different types of people.

“You were on my mind at least nine tenths of yesterday, it seemed as if perhaps I’d gone insane. What is it about you that has commandeered my brain? Maybe it’s your…” Kimya Dawson’s brilliant lyrics ring through my head as I realise that it appears I have nothing better to do on a Saturday night than listen to the Juno soundtrack (heads up my friends, it’s great) and appear pensive and philosophical while typing away at my laptop. That is until you know what is causing me so much mental frustration- I am deciding upon my ‘theory’ (as named by Jason and furthered by Isabelle) regarding the devious short shorts trend.
Short shorts were a feature of last season’s shows and where better to take lead from than the trend-barometer that is the Marc by Marc Jacobs collection (right.) I was quite comfortably on the fence until I received a peculiar delivery from a well-intentioned but elderly great-uncle.

From Madonna and Tom Ford to Drew Barrymore and Gwen Stefani; March is the issue in which all the magazines showcase the latest collections and therefore (along with September) it is the month that ever editor, reader and model either dreads or not-so-patiently awaits.
At one time this only applied to the girls mags but as the menswear market booms we are seeing a shift and the latest issue of Another Man only furthers this theory. Emile Hirsch, star of Sean Penn’s ‘Into the Wild’ and the new blockbuster ‘Speed Racer,’ is the cover model of the latest issue and the styling of the cover is a fresh and welcome relief from the dramatic and overly artistic looks that most editors go for around this time of the year. No leather or chains or sharp tailoring but only the paisley printed pleasure of newly-sprung spring joy. That and the undoubtable good looks of Hirsch add to this ‘New Bohemia’ mood.
However, do not be fooled by the slightly dazed atmosphere of Hirsch’s pensive stare- this issue involves the rebellious likes of Nick Cave, Michael Stipe and Jon Savage. Throw on a patterned shirt, light a (completely drug-free) spliff and chime with the birds- Spring has officially sprung.

The next look to make our list is the awkward length. This was a hard one to put into this feature as some do manage to pull it off but not everyone is Terence Koh and it only took a look at the local fashionisto’s crash and burn outfit of Kris van Assche-style combat with tight tee to know that this was one to be hastily put down.
So where did it all go wrong? When did the matronliness of Britain extend to Dolce & Gabbana jodhpurs and McQueen knits? At D&G, trousers were either tucked into boots or (sharp intake of breath) fitted with elasticated hems- yes, the same fabric responsible for the horrific Rocky Balboa-tracksuit/pantaloon ankle. McQueen went for his usual unwearable but exquisite fashions and approached this trend with a blend of Alpaca knit and Spanish embroidery. Some celebs have tried to wear this look but unless you are an artist/indie fashion editor/musician/girlfriend of Irina Lazareanu-type, it’s best to stay away. For those of you willing to take on the challenge and prove me wrong- take a look at this Rick Owens thigh-length top from Brown’s.

The latest news on the fashion circuit is of Posh Spice’s new venture-into the world of men’s jeans. According to an article on DNR, Beckham "despises skinny jeans on men." Ouch, first we have to endure the horror of her Barbie-pink twin-set and now we are treated to her ever so subtle sartorial touch. (I really do try to reserve my criticism but give a guy a break!) "Guys should wear jeans big and baggy, with a big pair of boots or flip-flops–exactly how you see David when he’s out in his jeans and T-shirt," is the advice Victoria gives to the new generation of denim-doyens.
They are made from Japanese denim and design features range from the ‘aged-leather’ waistband logo to the purple pocket lining. With the woman’s collection being stocked in stores from Colette to Harvey Nichols, it will be little surprise that the same stores are already enquiring about the brand-tastic bootlegs (denim not drink.) Prices range from £110 to £143 and the designs hit the market in August.
