Cable knit jumper Momomall

By admin on January 11th, 2008

Cableknit

Cable knit is a great thing, it really is. Especially if it comes for $35. I mean what’s that in British money? 25p!?
Once you’ve paid the postage it works out at £26. That’s nothing! You want one? I’ll get you one. Have two. (Please note, I do not mean this).
This and other such bargains are yours from Yes Style, a website which gives you access to Asian labels which aren’t available in the rest of the world. This cable knit comes from a South Korean label called Momomall. Strangely it only comes in one size, but the measurements are all on the website so that should see you right.

Sale: Dries Van Noten suit

By admin on January 11th, 2008

Driesvan_suit_sale_2

We’re all going to need a suit at some
point in our lives, so why not get one on sale? Dries Van Noten are
a brand we’ve featured before and for good reason. Suits in general are pretty
timeless, unless you get one with skulls on it or something, so you’re safe in
the knowledge that they’ll never be out of season.  DVN suits are tailored impeccably, leading to
a very flattering fit.

The dark grey colouring allows it to be
worn in a casual manner with a pair of Nanny states if need be, whilst still
being smart enough to wear to the office. Available from Browns, the sale cost is £285, down
£280 from £565.

Top Five: Sale coats

By admin on January 11th, 2008

Jacket_collage

Right now is the most awkward time to buy
clothes. You know you need some more winter clothing but are also aware that spring
is just round the corner. Stock up on tees and you’ll be freezing until at
least March. Stock up on coats and jumpers and you’ll have nothing to wear come
March. It’s this dilemma that’s led us to stockpile our sale coat
recommendations into one handy top five post. After this you will see no more
winter coats on Brandish. Unless we see a coat we like.

Winter coats in the sale – Balenciaga

By admin on January 7th, 2008

BalenciagaSales are strange things. You barely feel the pinch of winter and then all the warm stuff you want to wear starts to get discounted. This works out ok for the shopper though as any winter clothes you buy now in the Sale, you’ll probably still get a fair bit of wear out of.
With this in mind, I’m on the look out for a good winter coat – one that’s a good price but it going to last you more than just this winter.
I’m starting with this one from Balenciaga At £550 it’s not cheap, but it’s a classic shape so it’s going to last forever and it’s got some lovely detailing so you wont get bored of it. If you can afford to part with this much cash, I recommend going for something like this as you’ll definitely get your money’s worth in future winters and it will pay for itself in the attention you get. Available from Brown’s.

January Sale piece: Nerve’s brown coat

By admin on January 7th, 2008

Nervebrownjacket
What’s the word most associated with the
phrase ‘January sales’? Is it ‘great bargains’ or ‘horrible panic buy made just
to get out of the shop with something’? For most, it’s the latter. Bright lights and awful music can make for
some terrible shopping decisions. So why not take some time out, turn your
lights down low, put on whatever music you like and take a seat. Although you
should have been sitting down already, unless you use a PC standing up. And
that’s just bizarre.

Travis Millard for Blood is the New Black

By admin on January 4th, 2008

Bloodblack_2

I really struggled with whether to post this or not – just because really I wanted to keep it to myself. But in the end I couldn’t. Do you know why? Compassion. I’m just too giving.
So, it’s with a heavy heart (it’s full of human kindness) I bring you Travis Millard for Blood is the New Black. Click on the images to see them close up.
Sometimes you see the work of and artist and you think “You sir, are truly twisted…. but I like you”. That’s how I feel about Travis Millard. Whether it’s creepy-fingered chromosomes or sinister men in balaclavas, there’s something brilliantly disturbing about his designs.
Others are available from Blood is the New Black.

Artysm OCD collection

By admin on December 21st, 2007

TeeheavygrisWho doesn’t have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder? ask Artysm through their latest collection. I think the answer to that question is ‘Phooey!’.

The T-shirts all have side pockets, which is an interesting choice, but not a particularly good one for me. See how it stretches out the fabric? That would concern me, but I guess that brings us back to the question that the collection poses.
Even though it looks great, I’m not quite sure what the significance of an anvil is to OCD. The name of this T-shirt is ‘Heavy’ and another which shows a vice is called ‘Stress’ so I guess its to do with the conditions which cause OCD. But then there’s another T-shirt which shows a key. What’s that about? I’ve been trying to work that out for a good few hours now.
Again, back to the question.
Hrumph, I hate these T-shirts. Phooey!
You can get hold of them at Le Bouclard.

Loomstate jeans at New Dandyism

By admin on December 21st, 2007

Ndd00023a
The New Dandyism sale is worth checking out. Many items are 50% off, including these Loomstate jeans, which are only $69. In British money that’s like tuppence.

Loomstate design nice simple clothes with a nice and simple aim: to create demand for organic cotton. Since I blogged about organic cotton, I’m slowly becoming a bore obsessed. These look like a good fit – they’ve got a low rise and the legs are skinny without being too skinny. The shaping around the bum is very good and afterall, that’s the point of wearing jeans isn’t it? That and saving the world.
Get ‘em here.

Uniqlo Cashmere Scarves for £20!

By admin on December 20th, 2007

Uniqlocashmerescarf
A couple of weeks ago, I suggested a Paul Smith cashmere
scarf
as a Christmas gift. If you bought it, return it now! Right now! Why are
you still reading this and not returning that scarf?

If you didn’t buy it, but still want
cashmere round your neck then you’re in luck. Uniqlo have just released a range
of Cashmere
scarves
costing just £20. In my disbelief, I went to one of the flagship
stores and lo and behold, there it was. £20 cashmere scarves. They feel the
same as the Paul Smith and manage to be £80 cheaper. As a point of comparison,
Y-3 were trying to sell some awful branded wool scarves for £110 and H&M ‘luxury’
scarves cost £20.

Before you start, I know this is another
women’s item but who cares about gender with scarves anyway?

Go heart Your Own City T-shirt from Boundless

By admin on December 19th, 2007

Iheartny

New Yorkers are so skilled at creating something iconic and marketable. It’s one of the most recognisable cities in the world, and every street, shop or person can contribute to the New York brand.
Take the classic “I heart NY” tee for example. It’s bold brash and iconic. What’s more New York than that? What does London get? Union jack shirts,  “My boyfriend went to London and all I got was this lousy shirt” and “Good girls go to heaven, bad girls go to London” (haha, that one’s quite funny).
The “I heart NY” tee can be seen everywhere in the world and has been adopted and modified for a million different purposes. All this must be quite annoying for New Yorkers hence this "Go heart Your Own City" T-shirt is one of the top sellers from Boundless NY.
I think its funny, but I can’t help being a bit put out by it. File under “Biting the hand that feeds you”.

Trendwatch: Now we’re Lost

By admin on December 19th, 2007

Lost_t_shirt
Continuing our trend watch, we
present to you the ‘Lost’
tee
. There’s no need for us to recount the whole story of how these tees
came around, but now even underwhelming TV shows are getting the t-shirt
treatment.

One does wonder though, when was this shirt
thought up? Was it during the first season, when Lost looked certain to become
the biggest show of the decade or during the second season when people got
bored of it? They could have made a similar tee from Heroes characters would
probably be a lot more successful right now. Although I personally would like
one featuring characters from The Wire, the best show on TV bar none. If
someone made that I’d give them all the money I have on me right now (£2.34
& some Halls Soothers).

Trend Watch: Nike ‘Band members’ tee from Kiks Tyo

By admin on December 17th, 2007

Kikstyo_2It had to happen. When I look at it, I realize it was inevitable. If only I’d thought of it first.
We Sold Out have just taken shipment of this T-shirt from Japanese trainer-head’s label, Kiks Tyo. The shirt lists all the most desirable trainer classics of recent years and finishes the list with the brand’s own name suggesting they are a trainer classic to be rated alongside the greats.
This T-shirt will really sort the men from the boys in terms of displaying your credentials. To get the in-joke, first you have to know about the T-shirt trend Experimental Jetset started with their Beetles and Stones Tees, then you have to recognize the Nike trainer names. On top of that, you have to know the brand Kiks Tyo to get why they’re on the list. It’s quite exhausting. I don’t know if I have the energy to laugh after jumping through all those hoops.

B.Son double breasted jacket

By admin on December 14th, 2007

Bsonjacket_2 I
was almost tired of talking about
jackets. Shouldn’t everyone have one by now? It’s so cold out that I’m
seriously considering wearing long johns to work. So cold that you should have
bought a jacket out of necessity not just fashion-based vanity (like I did). Any
coats you get now will simply be adding to your collection and I can’t think of
a better reason to buy a jacket than that. I seriously can’t.

This B.Son
jacket
is pretty much the standard for this season, I’m sure you know it by
now: double breasted, muted colours etc… However the bottom of the jacket
is cut like a waistcoat, which adds a little character to what would have been
an average jacket. For what you’re getting, the price is pretty reasonable at
about £275.

McQueen Feather Print T-shirt

By admin on December 14th, 2007

Mcqueenfeathertee250 nicker for a T-shirt? Are you ‘aving a bubble?
Gorgeous as it is, you’d have to be barking to part with that kind of cash for a T-shirt, even if it is ‘one of the highest specification t-shirts available today’. What’s to specify? It’s a bit of jersey with a crew neck.
Although he’s obviously taken leave of his senses, M. McQueen has not lost his love of technology in fashion. This highly detailed design is bleached onto the shirt rather printed or dyed, and to give it its due, it is beautiful. A perfect example of the McQueen brand, it’s coolly stylish and darkly gothic. I just wish it was cheaper.
If you’ve got money to burn you can get it from Oki-ni.

Yay or Nay – Bib Shirts

By admin on December 14th, 2007

Bib_shirt
Judging by what a lot of high-street stores
have in stock, bib shirts (like the one to the left) seem to be popular right
now.

I’m not sure why. From a distance it just looks like the wearer has been
sweating profusely in a asymmetrical pattern. Not the look anyone wants to go
for.
