The only jacket you’ll ever need from Commes Des Garcons

If you only ever buy one more coat in your life, make it this broadcloth Pea-jacket from Commes Des Garcons. In fact you might not have a choice in the matter if you do decide to go ahead with the purchase. It costs almost £700.

But pish to the price, this is simply one of the most exquisite items of clothing I have ever laid by greedy eyes on. At first glance it looks like an ordinary half-length winter coat. But look a bit closer and you’ll notice that the material is subtly quilted which, along with the cut, gives it a distinguished and masculine look.

And even at the price, this jacket is an investment, as it will go with any look, be it a sharp suit or a pair of jeans and an old jumper.

Topman bomber jacket

Great for the transition from summer to autumn, Topman’s nylon bomber (£40) will keep the chill off of you as the nights draw in and the winds pick up. Actually, I could have done with one of these a couple of weeks ago. It really seems to me that we had spring this year, then skipped straight on toward winter.

Still, at least you get an excuse to wear a great jacket like this a tad earlier than expected. I love the claret and white colour way, as well as the Baracuta style cut, but at a third of the price.

Oki-Ni x Scrawl Collective collaboration

Despite a lot of their clothing being of a price that I consider to be in the "outrageous" range, Oki-Ni sell some top garments that I would have no problem wearing, could I afford them.

However, this t-shirt breaks this mold by looking great and being priced at a fairly reasonable £35. Designed by Ric Blackshaw, who has previously laboured under Nike, Puma, Levi’s and Lee, the tee celebrates the 25th anniversary of the ZX Spectrum Sinclair, using its keyboard layout to form the Oki-Ni brand-name as well as incorporating Blackshaw’s Scrawl Collective agency into the design.

Go Ape tee shirt proves that The Beatles were just a bunch of monkeys

Go Ape shirts are one in a long list of reader-submitted-designs t-shirt websites, but they’re set apart from the rest with some fantastic designs and low prices. One of their latest designs, Doesn’t Fall Far From The Tree ($18) was featured on NotCot and Uncrate a few weeks ago – it’s a t-shirt that no self-respecting Apple lover should be without.

But it’s the Evolver tee (also $18) which particularly caught my eye for its clever take on The Beatles’ Revolver album. Even the art style, featuring a bunch of monkeys in the place of the Fab Four, is spot on. Continuing with primate-themed clothing, the shiny Silverback tee is also worth a look.

Topman three stripe hoody

I love hoodies, but I’m an absolute sucker for the type that you get in skate stores like Natterjack’s, with some of the tops that I’ve bought in the past costing in excess of £60. And I wonder why I don’t have any money for food at the end of the month.

So I’m always grateful when a fantastic hoody comes along that’s affordable enough so I don’t have to live off of frozen peas and ketchup until my next paycheck. This Topman three stripe hooded top fits that bill. The pattern is great and I love the white trim and pocket details. And I also love the price of £30.

Portland Studios’ t-shirts

Portland Studios is a company that specialises in website design, but also finds time to knock up a few spiffing t-shirts every now and again. The latest two designs come from the cover art of an obscure Christian rock album, but I won’t hold that against them.

Knight, shown above, and I For An I are both two quite simple, but original, prints from Portland and are the best tees from a rather small collection. They’re also dead cheap – $15 per tee which equates to about £8 in English monies.

Robot Attacks t-shirt from Design By Humans: The first winner of the $5000 DBH prize

I covered Design By Humans a little while ago on Brandish and commented on how many of their designs were of a higher calibre than you average reader-submitted t-shirt website. Little has changed, except they’ve got even better, and expanded the number of tees available on the website. Threadless really are getting a run for their money.

Compounding this, DBH have just announced their first $5000 prize winner, a sum awarded to the designer whose has shifted the largest number of tees. The winning design was the awesome Robot Attacks ($19) tee, which is actually a collaboration of about 20 artists, each submitting a drawing of a robot that was used in the final product and thus sharing the cash.

Suddenly that prize money doesn’t seem so attractive afterall…

Topman red check shirt

I love Topman’s take on a classic-pattern check. For me it’s all about the primary red and blue check-combo and the placket detail that features an alternated check pattern which offsets the rest of the shirt nicely.

This would look fantastic with a grey, wide-necked cardigan such as this one by Tipped Edge (£25) and a pair of washed-out jeans. Alternatively, wear it open with a rockin’ tee. The Lady Luck from Eio would be ideal, and is a bargain, having been reduced from £25 to £15.

Found: Pharrell’s totally awesome t-shirt

Thanks to one of our loyal readers, Brandish have managed to track down that fanastic t-shirt that he was wearing at the Superbad Premiere. Initially it was suggested that it looked like the Radiohead logo, and someone in the office said it could be an illustration from the Mighty Boosh. I smacked down both of these utterly preposterous suggestions.

No, it turns out, as I first cogitated with my extremely huge brain, that the t-shirt is from Pharrell’s very own range of clothing, BBC (Billionaire Boys Club) but from some reason is exclusive to Solebox. The Dog Face Tee is quite heftily priced at £60, but I really shouldn’t be surprised, seeing as this is from a celebrity clothing line.

Obey High Life mummy t-shirt

There’s only one thing I like better than skull-adorned t-shirts, and that’s t-shirts with zombies printed on them. I own a grand total of three zombified tees, but I soon hope to increase that by one more with this Obey High Life tee (£15). Okay, so technically it isn’t a zombie, but mummies are still integral members of the "living dead" family. So there.

Bioshock fan-art t-shirt

I’m not a big gamer anymore. Back in the days of the SNES and Megadrive consoles, you couldn’t tear me away from the bloody things, but now I’m just a bit "meh" about the whole gaming world. Having said that, there are still certain games that will light my nerdish desires, and Bioshock is definitely one of them. The idea of an FPS set in an art-deco inspired future of genetically engineered freaks is just so… appealing.

It’s the imagery in the game that’s the draw and it appears that others would agree. Transcending the game itself, this tee-shirt design is a product of fan-art that depicts a Big Daddy and a Little Sister, characters in the game that have a twisted but "loving" symbiotic relationship. Originally designed for the Threadless Bioshock competition, it unfortunately didn’t win. However, there is a chance that Threadless will still print this awesome tee. Here’s hopin’.
