WISHLIST: Prada Lifestyle Sets

prada.jpg

While most men opt for the safe bet of ties, socks and other traditional Father’s Day gifts, I have always wanted to get something better. I spend weeks and months searching for something perfect in its masculine luxury, but when your dad works for Tesco’s your options are sadly limited. As a result, I often end up presentless and apologetic by the Third Sunday of June (like today, for instance.)

I was a fan of Isabelle’s ‘Caviar’ ties but only this afternoon (how horrendously cruel is that?) found these Prada Lifestlye sets.

Tom Ford spoofs ‘in treatment’

tom-ford.jpg

At this year’s CFDA awards, Thom Browne, Michael Bastian and Tom Ford all starred in a spoof of HBO series In Treatment. As someone who’d never heard of that show until I just googled it, the spoof kind of went over my head. Ford’s a believable actor in this though, if the whole fashion thing wasn’t going so well, he probably could consider acting as a career. See for yourself after the jump.

Roberto Cavalli unlikely to do another diffusion line

cavallihm.JPG

Roberto Cavalli’s H&M diffusion line was a major success sales wise but he’s unlikely to do another range, if a recent Telegraph interview was anything to go by. In the interview, Cavalli also stated that he “detest(s) men – dressed or naked” – which goes a long way to explaining why his menswear range for H&M was so awful.

Lucas Ossendrijver’s 10 rules of style

lanvindesigner.jpg

In this month’s Details, Lanvin’s Lucas Ossendrijver delivers his 10 rules of style. While we’ve heard some of these rules before, an interesting one he brings up is that ‘You shouldn’t adapt to what people expect you to wear’. I think that’s an interesting point and one to remember when you get stuck in a style rut.

WISHLIST: CA4LA Trilby

Thumbnail image for trilby2.jpg

This week I happen to be in the rather happening city of Mumbai. This former Bombay is, according to US Vogue, the new “It-City” but after landing yesterday I must admit that the gruelling heat wave soon quashed my hopes of glamour and a jet-set style wardrobe. In my stone grey Topman shorts, white belt, Karate Kid t-shirt and flip-flops I realised I was missing something and as soon as I stepped into the light of Indian sun I realised that what I needed was a hat.

Brandish Poll: Thom Browne or Tom Ford?

newyorktimes.jpg

Image: Eric Johnson for The New York Times

Thom Browne and Tom Ford are without a doubt two of Brandish’s favourite designers and so imagine my surprise when I got e-mailed this article from the New York Times. It compares the work of both men and includes such literary gems as “The Tom Ford man is an Anglicized gloss on Hollywood style, while Thom Browne’s designs evoke the hipness of eternal adolescence” and Tom Ford’s brilliant definition of masculininty; “to be masculine is to fuse the debonair cut of a Savile Row suit with the swagger of a star from 1970s pornography.”

I made the Brandish team answer this rather sadistic question and you can see their (unwilling) answers after the jump.

WISHLIST: Chanel Resort Jumpers

chanel.jpg

Resort season is always a bit of a drag for me; overly-frivolous (yes I see the haute-couture irony) and just another season to get my head around, the jump from Calvin Klein to cruise is always too much for me. I was losing faith and Karl Lagerfeld’s show was nauseatingly frilly that the sight of a male model in pink tie-dye with quilted interlocking-Cs was enough to finish me off.

Interview- June/July 2008- Marc Jacobs is Andy Warhol!

Continuing his penchant for artist/fashion collaborations, Marc Jacobs has taken to this month’s Interview cover as Andy Warhol. The magazine was founded by Warhol and so I guess it is fitting that the issue should act as a bit of a tribute on what would have been the artist’s 80th birthday.

Electronic Poet S/S threaded hoody

elctpoet01.jpg

It might be a bit of anachronism taking a look at hoodies when we’re now well into Spring and talking about short shorts. But let’s not forget this is the UK, so constant balmy weather is never a certainty at this time of the year – global warming or nay.

Electronic Poet have produced the perfect S/S piece with their threaded hoody. Even layered up against the rain, it’s airy enough as to not leave you feeling muggy and uncomfortable.

Nike team up with the ‘influential’ Ed Banger crew

pedwintraf1.jpg

High Snobiety have posted another look at Nike’s upcoming collaboration with Pedro ‘Busy P’ Winter, head honcho at French record label Ed Banger.

Part of their on-going ‘Influencer’ pack, creating Air Force 1s designed by movers and shakers in Europe, Asia and the US, apparently one shoe will be done by Winter and the other by Ed Banger’s creative director So_Me, the guy behind Justice’s t-shirt transforming video for D.A.N.C.E. and Kanye West’s ‘Good Life’.

WISHLIST: River Island Marvel Cap

riverislandmarvel.jpg

Now I know for a fact that I wasn’t the only one disappointed with Met Gala-attending celebrities lack of Superhero costume inspiration. In fact, Zac Posen was the only attendee who matched up to my high standards of fancy-dress. Therefore, I was delighted when I came across this River Island cap with Marvel Comic decoration (Persil, Armani, River Island- what isn’t Marvel on at the moment!)

Dolce & Gabbana announce new menswear store

Last month we were happy to hear a stand alone Marc by Marc would be opening up in London towards the end of the year. More good news for the city comes this week with Dolce & Gabbana announcing their first men’s wear boutique.

Taking over the 2,000 sq. ft. space the Tommy Hilfiger flagship left behind on Sloane St., the store will be fitted by Studio Piuarch in collaboration with Ferruccio Laviani, a team which have done the interiors of 35 other D&G stores. So expect varnished walls, black chandeliers and walnut displays.

Everyday Fashion Miracles: Vintage Variety

I happened through a series of make-believe fashion-related and totally cool occurrences to be watching Britain’s Got Talent the other night and as a result I was witness to the horror of Hoop La La. No, this is not some Christian cult or Paganistic ritual it is the work of Jessie, Craig and Tina; a group of students hoping to make it big with their hula-hoop act.

After watching I was inspired to right a piece on vintage clothing and while unexpectedly drawn from the image of a Scot in hot-pants, there is greater reasoning after the jump.

Victor Glemaud S/S 2008

glemaudcollage.jpg

Considering Victor Glemaud’s first collection was only Spring/Summer 2007, he’s garnered a remarkable amount of attention in a very short time. It’s no coincidence that he was a publicist before he moved into the fashion world, although he also worked as a design advisor for Paco Rabanne for a year before opening his own line in July 2006.

Trends: Watch & Wear- Navy SEAL Zeal

lvnavy.jpg

List any of this season’s It-items and chances are they are water-related or wave-inspired. Yes, that means you boat shoe, loafer, plimsoll, striped tee and navy (hello!) blue shirt.

The mood is light yet determined and spray-in-the-face cool. Imagine sea-side escapades (emphasis on the imagine) and sand between your toes as you loosely raise that striped knit from your oversized Jil Sander mesh-holdall.

British Knights returning to shoe shop near you

bknights0.jpg

Being that I’m barely halfway through my twenties, it’s hard to talk about ‘blasts from the past’ without someone rolling their eyes and claiming I’m not old enough to be properly reminiscing over things. Sort of like how I roll my eyes at teenagers getting teary-eyed about the eighties.
