Clarks Originals Desert Boot goes metal

By admin on October 10th, 2008

The Desert Boot is a design classic and is one of those items which never really goes out of style. I recently saw a well-dressed chap on the street sporting a suede pair with some tracksuit-bottom style cuffed trousers and it made a great outfit.

Clarks Originals
have some great traditional colours available for Autumn, their Desert Boot comes in cream, tan and ebony. They’ve also updated the look and brought out a pair in shimmering peach or silver and they’re about a hundred times better looking than they sound on paper.

The peach pair would look great with some faded grey jeans and in my dreams I’d love to see the silver pair as part of an all-metallic outfit… What? Pictures after the jump.

Onitsuka Tiger’s Electric Tiger Land trainer glows in the dark

By admin on October 6th, 2008

Onitsuka Tiger’s Electric Tiger Land shoe launched last week in a limited edition across the country.

The shoe has a Japanese cityscape design which comes alive thanks to embroidery detailing and UV-reactive printing. Available in black and white from Size?, Offspring and Foot Asylum and in red from Onitsuka Tiger’s Newburgh street shop they retail at £80. The Electric black, pictured above glows under UV light to reveal a night-time Tokyo skyline; all I want to know is where are the masses and masses of electrical cable which punctuate a typical Japanese skyline?!

Iggy- That’s Not What We Meant By The New ‘It’ Shoe!

By Will Reid on October 2nd, 2008

Iggy Pop has, in previous seasons, been declared by designers as high-fashion inspiration. And for many valid reasons; he rocked skinny leather trousers long before Kate Moss, meddled with blood long before Angelina Jolie and played the effeminate rocker with crazy hair long before Russell Brand.

But when Brandish’s own Isabelle reported on the menswear trend of ‘Medges,’ (men’s footwear with a Wedge heel,) no-one was expecting the trend to filter down to Crocs.

As good old Oscar Wilde once mused, “fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months.” Well, there’s no time like the present!

Alden cordovan lace-up boots from Browns

By admin on September 29th, 2008

alden cordovan lace boots browns.jpg
DMs are back in fashion but they can look a little clompy for everyday wear. Alden’s lace-up boot hits the ankle at the perfect spot for teaming with rolled-up trousers for an unbeatable look.

The cordovan horsehide is extremely waterproof and polishes up to a great finish making it the ideal winter boot. Coffee-brown laces are a wonderful touch and look great with the black leather, proving that black and brown can go well together. These boots aren’t cheap at £505 but will make an investment that will last years, snap them up from Browns.

What colour is your Johnson?

By Jonathan Smith on September 22nd, 2008

the-hundreds-footwear-shoes-sneakers-2.jpg

T-Shirt aficionados The Hundreds are branching out into footwear and with great anticipation are gearing up to release their first offering: The Johnson. A great name for what appears to be a great shoe, with a Pointer-esque silhouette and vibrant colours The Johnson slips nicely into the growing trainer market.

“A clean, understated shoe that serves to emphasize the wearer’s overall appearance. And it has everything to do with my roster of kicks growing up in Cali. It’s really a concoction of all my favorite shoes that are representative of youth subcultures: Chucks, Winos, Doc Martens, Vans… I even tried to have the laces staggered like a pair of early Jordans do from an above-perspective. I think I managed to pull off a very sophisticated shoe that retains some character, but is ultra basic when it comes to lines and silhouette.” From Sneaker Freaker.

The Johnson should be available soon from your favourite boutiques.

Love The Look: Mark Ronson at Vivienne Westwood

By Will Reid on September 19th, 2008

Mark Ronson has always been a tiptop fashion star and this year has been awash with his sartorial influence. From the stripes and Mod look of early 2008 to the sharp tailoring in kooky fabrics. From the ’50s rock-star (read: Elvis) to the fur-clad aristo-geek.

Now, Ronson is taking it upon himself to lead the way with the trapper-hat wearer, ‘Lightspeed Champion,’ look as first established by our (soon to depart-) Jason Dike. Mark looked great at Vivienne Westwood’s after-show party last night with his fur-lined coat, oversized glasses and slick boots.

Vibe Magazine’s celebratory boot

By Jonathan Smith on September 15th, 2008

vibe-magazine-20-adidas-forum-high-1.jpg

This year Vibe Magazine turns 15 and to commemorate this mile stone birthday the magazine, with the help of Adidas, has knocked up this limited edition Forum Hi. The sneaker has a subtle colourway but is high on detail with the use of ostrich and snake skin and patterned laces and stripes, also it is limited to only 1500 pairs- so I suggest you get your rear into gear and reach for that credit card now. However if you feel that 1500 pairs is a bit too common for you then there is a single super special signed pair of the Forums that will go to the highest bidder, for more info check it out on the Vibe website.

The Vibe Forum Hi is available from today at any Adidas Originals store and at shopadidas.com.

By Jonathan Smith on September 2nd, 2008

La-Gear-X-Patta-X-Club-Zonder-6.jpg

This morning we heard of L.A Gear’s return, and now I can bring you more information including an interview with the girls who brought the company back from the grave, all courtesy of those bloody helpful chaps and chapettes over at Sneaker Freaker!

L.A Gear has teamed with Patta and Club Zonder Filter to bring you the ostentatious Fireball, pictured above. Loud and proud the Fireball has many details that will appeal to the lady sneaker freak, although there is no news on a release of a guys version I’m sure if you cut off the bow on the heel no one will ever know!

Check out the interview with Kristel and Josine and further information on L.A Gear here, also check out the L.A Gear website here, it unfortunately doesn’t yet have a product catalogue, though by the looks of things there is one on the way with releases for both mens and ladies.

L.A Gear are back from the abyss

By Jonathan Smith on September 2nd, 2008

La-Gear-X-Patta-Party-1.jpgL.A Gear are back! “Hurrah!” I hear you cry, and you would be right to because L.A Gear are a cheer worthy brand. Harking from the same era as the Reebok Pump – one of the greatest trainers of all time – in an age when it wasn’t enough for trainers to be comfortable and look good, they had to have some other way to interact with such as a pump or lighting system. Judging by the success of the relaunch of the Reebok Pumps these should sell well and be highly sought after by sneaker freaks.

The trainer will be available at Patta from September 13th.

Etnies SEED: enviromental consciousness for the fashion conscious

By Jonathan Smith on August 26th, 2008

etniesseed.jpg

Want fashion but NEED sustainability? Nah me neither, but if you’re unlike me and care for the welfare of the planet then the Etnies SEED project has just the thing for you.

The SEED project is a collaboration between Etnies and Gary Benzel bringing you footwear and apparel made from recycled and sustainable materials, on top of this 1% of the profits from the sale of these pieces will go to environmental organisations that Etnies believes “will plant the seeds for the future of action sports, humanity, and our planet.

The San Diego based artist Gary Benzel has had a strong guiding hand in the design of the range and has done a smashing job, every piece looking great and finished to a high standard of quality that you sometimes don’t find in items born of recycled materials.

Jump through for the full range.

Brand profile: Common Projects

By admin on August 22nd, 2008

commonprojects.jpg
Common Projects are the latest brand to fulfil my current fetish for plain trainers. We’ve featured a pair of their trainers before, but it’s only fair to give the whole brand the once over. Common Projects is the brainchild of Prathan Poopat, former art director for V and Visionaire magazine, and Flavio Girolami, a consultant for several Italian brands.

Their outlook towards the footwear and marketing is one of minimalism as they avoid advertising or complicating their designs. This allows their trainers a timeless appeal which allows them to look regardless of what time of year it is. If you want your trainers to simply complete your outfit instead being the best part of it, Common Projects are the way to go. You can get some of their new range on Oki-Ni, with prices starting from £159.

Kurt Geiger Lost Sounds deck shoe

By admin on August 20th, 2008

kurt geiger orange deck shoes.jpg
My summer romance with deck shoes was coming to an end but then Kurt Geiger’s ‘Lost Sounds’ shoes (£55) appeared on the scene and made me reconsider my winter strategy. First of all they’re three tone which is always a surefire bet for a good shoe, and the colours themselves are a tonal duo of greys with a shot of orange guaranteed to beat the winter blues.

Worn with a pair of socks in a clashing bright or a stripy grey this is a summer romance that might make it till next spring.
