Bit chilly out, isn’t it? If you’re still running about in flip-flops and short sleeves then a) You’re mental and b) take a look at the calendar, it’s the middle of October!
Global warming may be jumbling up the seasons like a misguided game of drunken Twister, but winter’s definitely kicking in now. If the change in weather has caught you by surprise, have no fear! One month after opening the label’s first women’s flagship store for McQ Alexander McQueen on London’s Dover Street, the label is opening its first ever store dedicated to menswear today. Opening its doors in number 9 on the Mayfair street of Savile Row, famous worldwide as the home of tailoring (the word ‘bespoke’ is understood to have originated from Savile Row when a cloth for a suit was said to “be spoken for” by individual customers), the store will provide the largest offering of men’s ready-to-wear line and accessories.
What about the street’s famous tradition of individually tailored suits you ask? There are plans to develop an in-house bespoke tailoring service which will be housed at the workshop in the basement of the house.
Sharing the same vision as the new McQueen women’s store concept, creative director Sarah Burton commented on the launch: “This new menswear store is like a homecoming for Alexander McQueen, since Lee himself was an apprentice on Savile Row, and tailoring has always been the backbone of the label. I’m excited to be able to offer Alexander McQueen menswear in our new environment that is steeped in the codes of the house.”
The store design draws inspiration from nature and the graphic lines of Francis Bacon, the skeleton, military parades and the faded grandeur of stately homes.

We’ve just experienced our allotted two days of British summer (barely enough time to shake the cobwebs off our deck shoes and shorts!), and so it’s now time to turn our attention to the Autumn Winter trends for 2012.
Frencheye, a London-based tailoring brand who take their inspiration from continental brands like Zegna and Canali, are touting their latest range of evening wear.
“From desk to dinner” is the Frencheye tagline, and the range certainly has the flexibility to impress both in the boardroom and on a classy night out. We’re particularly keen on the use of velvets and moleskins, though it takes a brave bloke to “tip the velvet”, so to speak.

Hollywood hellraiser Colin Farrell took to the red carpet at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles last night for the premiere of his new sci-flick ‘Total Recall’.
Looking dapper in head-to-toe Dolce & Gabbana, Farrell’s new movie is a remake of the 1990 Schwarzenegger cult classic of the same name. Directed by Len Wiseman and also starring Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, Bryan Cranston and John Cho, it follows factory worker Douglas Quaid who discovers he is a lean, mean, double agent killing machine after a routine memory implant operation uncovers memories of his former deadly life.
We’ve got all the shots from the red carpet above, including snaps of guests Ozzy, Sharon and Jack Osbourne.
‘Total Recall’ hits UK cinemas nationwide on 29 August 2012.

Herring Harvard II (Brown)
You can bet your life on a pair of brogues, the Brandish go-to style that no fashion conscious gent’s wardrobe should be without.
One of our favourite family-run British brands Herring, who’ve been churning out beautiful brogues both traditional and modern since 1966, have just revealed their latest line: the Herring Harvard II.
A two-tone saddle brogue line-up, they’re part of Herring’s Premium collection, and land with a £255 price tag.
Four styles in all are available; a chestnut and navy suede mix, a gangster-friendly mahogany and ivory pair, a mahogany and tam suede look and the chestnut mahogany grain pair pictured above (being our personal favourites).
“The new range is made in the well-established Cheaney factory, renowned for turning out individual styles with hand crafted finishes,” reads the Herring blog.
“This is echoed throughout the Herring Harvard II from the use of a full leather lining to the Goodyear welted leather sole, adding extra comfort, moisture management and excellent shape retention.”

The crowds were buzzing on the opening day of London Collections: – a new showcase for men’s fashion developed from men’s day at London Fashion Week – but it was nothing like the talk on Twitter when Nick Hart, the man behind Spencer Hart announced that a mystery guest would be walking the brand’s show.

As the show drew closer, it was revealed that it would be genious detective, and upcoming Star Trek 2 villain, Benedict Cumberbatch, and we couldn’t wait to head to Old Selfridges Hotel to take our seats.
Nick Hart describes the Spencer Hart man as an independent thinker, which shows in the label’s sharp signature style. The spring/summer 2013 collection of the luxury Savile Row tailor didn’t disappoint; with Jazz age influences and old school glamour key looks included textured finishes, lightweight fabrics (perfect for warm summer days) and classic suede shoes. We particularly liked the mix of black and dark blue fabrics as well, often though as a no-go for many in the fashion industry.

Cumberbatch has long been a Hart fan, having worn his designs on several red carpet events such as the TV BAFTAs and the Golden Globes, so his guest appearance wasn’t that much of a surprise. As part of a celebrity five piece, Cumberbatch took to the catwalk clutching a cigar and a glass of whisky, while showing off an elegant black silk pyjama set. He was joined by polar explorer Inge Solheim, former English rugby player Lawrence Dallaglio, award-winning artist Stuart Pearson Wright and Michelin-starred Pollen Street Social founder Jason Atherton.

When the summer heat kicks up a wavy haze off the concrete city streets, we know it can be tough to resist the urge to laze around in just your lightest shirts and underwear.
Yet, we just can’t accept the return of the Hawaiian shirt, this summer’s slob-chic must-have. It’s like someone covered themselves in wallpaper paste, tore the pages out of a tattoo catalogue and rolled around in the scraps, off their nut on umbrella-wearing cocktails.
But who are we to judge the fashion gods? Ah, a good old pair of Brogues; the work horse of mens’ wardrobes across the globe, they’re the one pair of shoes as comfortable in the boardroom as they are down the pub.
The little pock-marked shoe has come a long way from its humble beginnings as cross-country footwear in Scotland and Ireland (the little holes were intended as drainage run-offs when passing through wet terrain) and now everyone from Kurt Geiger to Dr Martens have a fair few pairs in their catalogues.

Forget going for gold. Team GB will be decked out in indigo as they take to the track and field for the London 2012 Olympic games.
Inspired by the Union Jack flag, the Olympic and Paralympic sportswear will feature predominately blue hues paired with red footwear as they compete across the summer.
Designed by Beatle offspring Stella McCartney in partnership with sponsors Adidas, over 900 British athletes will be kitted out with a total of approximately 175,000 items of clothing from the range during the games.
“All eyes will be on the British athletes when they take the stage at the Games,” said Adidas UK Marketing Director Nick Craggs.
“We wanted to ensure that they would be the best equipped team through a combination of leading technologies including PowerWEB and Climacool and a unified and striking team identity.”
So what’s the rough verdict on the kit? While the public seem a little sceptical on the actual “Britishness” of the clothing, it’s garnered unanimous praise from the athletes themselves.
“It is very blue and that is nice and subtle but, at the same time, it does what it needs to do,” BMX cyclist Shanaze Reade told BBC Sport.
“You can often blend in with French wearing red, white and blue but this is completely on its own and makes us feel very British. As females it is all about what it looks like and if you feel good it makes us perform even better.”
110 metre hurdler Will Sharman was equally chuffed, noting that the kit was functional as well as fashionable:
“It needs to be lightweight, which it is, it needs to be aerodynamic and it is. There is no flapping about so, from a performance perspective, it’s exactly what we were looking for. The colours are different but it’s definitely British. I get excited putting it on. It has the Olympic rings on and that gives you pride.”

We all know that Lando “Billy Dee Williams” Calrissian is a sharp dresser. Heck, even his Cloud City pad would be a dead cert for the title of “Best Intergalactic Crib” should the MTV show ever spread among the stars. But what of the rest of the Star Wars cast? With a whole empire at his disposal Darth Vader would surely be able to charm (READ: Force Choke) a decent tailor into suiting him up into some crisp threads. And what of an outdoorsman like Chewbacca? He’s going to need some serious Birkenstocks to keep those furry paws in shape.
John Woo (the illustrator/designer, not he of “Face/Off” fame) has the answers, dressing up the galaxy’s finest aliens and Empire henchmen on trend for his new “He Wears It” project.
It’s not only great fun, but they look neat too; the Clone Tropper in Junya Watanabe and Darth Vader in Band of Outsiders look particularly sharp! Still, there’s no saving Jar Jar Binks; in Maison Martin Margiela he’s even more of an annoying dick.
All of Woo’s Star Wars illustrations (alongside some Forrest Gump and Edward Scissorhands ones too) are available to purchase as prints from his Etsy.com shop, priced $60.00 USD.

We were recently introduced to Los Angeles based Beautiful Fül, through their Spring ’12 lookbook, and one thing is for sure now… we can’t wait for spring!
Beautiful Fül’s designer, Alejandro Rodriquez has garnered respect and acclaim from both national and international retailers and industry insiders in recent years with his emphasis on clean modern lines and attention to detail. This collection shows a much lighter side than Rodriquez’s previous collections, although definitely maintains his west coast aesthetic. What do you think of the collection?

There is definitely something debonair about the A|X Armani Exchange Autumn 2011 collection. A mix of blazers, plaid shirts, vests and jackets with elbow patches it looks like they’ve taken inspiration from the British gentry. Then again, the leather jacket and red outfit (see gallery below) brings the mind to more indie/rock so perhaps we’re mistaken.
As part of the A|XX 20th anniversary celebrations this year, A|X Armani Exchange teamed up with one of the UK’s top dance labels, Toolroom Knights, and has since July hosted a series of Saturday afternoon DJ sessions in their stores nationwide. The collaboration is coming to an end on 17th December, so if you want to indulge in some tunes spun by the latest and newest music talent check out the A|X Facebook page or visit the DJ Residency Series website for more info before it’s too late.

I absolutely love the latest collection from the British fashion house Alexander McQueen.
Overall they have created a minimal but elegant collection. A few of my favourite pieces include the beautiful Prince of Wales check suit, the Fair Isle Jacquard knit button-up, and a cashmere turtle neck featuring the McQueen skull on the front.
They also have a few more casual pieces such as the bomber jacket, the cashmere pony-print v-neck sweater and classic skull motif scarf.

Adidas have rolled out the much anticipated third installment of the popular David Beckham / Design by J. Bond collection for Fall/Winter 2011.
The collaboration between sport and style icon David Beckham and Undefeated founder James Bond has been widely celebrated in the past, and will yet again see a contemporary range of footwear, outerwear, and accessories.
Much of the inspiration has clearly been pulled from collegiate imagery and has a very traditional American sportswear feel to it. This is something we have seen a lot of in the last two seasons. The varsity jacket in particular seems to be making a comeback. What do you make of this trend – will you be rocking the look this Fall/Winter?
