Here we have seven of the finest coats and jackets for this winter. Inspired by the wax jacket and cropped jacket trend these jackets and coats vary in price from £110 to £340 but they are all of the top quality and the majority of these coats are being sold at independent retailers who do a fantastic job keeping us from dieing from high street boredom. Please support them. All the links through the products and the prices of the products are available below.

When it comes to winter jackets there is a fantastic collection this season for you to choose from. Starting with the casual ones focused on in this post, it’s hard to overlook Penfield’s efforts and with a seemingly expanded line of outerwear and a lot of stockists it is set to be the choice of many in the coming months. In the gallery below is their Summit Woodland Parka which is available at Urban Outfitters, but do not overlook other jackets in their collection most of which is available at Urban Industry.
They may now be a cliche, but quilted jackets are certainly still relevant this winter. Instead of choosing a Barbour like we all have, try Lavenham. They are cut shorted and slimmer and whilst they may cost a bit more than your standard Liddesdale they are certainly worth it in terms and quality and aesthetics. The Lavenham Raydon Quilted Jacket is available at ASOS.
Cheap Monday continue to impress with more than their denim this season and the Grey Canvas Parka in the gallery certainly proves this. Over-sized and simple, it’s nice to see a jacket so often associated with green and Mod revivalists being given a refreshing makeover.

ASOS have just unveiled a new trend for the Autumn and it actually does their own brand collection justice. It’s a well thought out, solid collection that’s accessible and well styled, continuing the outdoor trend that has lasted a few seasons it seems to have taken the best elements of some them such as Fairisle knits, but left out the worst, like mens fringed moccasins. Here is how ASOS described the collection and below is a gallery of some of the picks of the collection. View the full collection HERE.
‘Scanning the wilderness of North America, Scotland and Scandinavia, Nomad is a look grounded in the history of cross-continental adventure. Playing with ethnic patterns and texture is vital, with Navajo and Fairisle mixing like never before. It’s a look obviously influenced by the wandering tribes and their distinctive take on the functional, yet is equally at home in town. It’s time to take a journey to the great outdoors…’

After the Love and Hate four finger rings which sold out pretty quick on Oki-Ni, the J.W. Anderson accessories once more appear to be a sought after and build on the contradiction theme that is present throughout the collection. Assassin or saint? Made from horn, these are actually reasonably priced at £56 and I think I might have to purchase the Assassin one.

Spots, dots, patterns and checks are all very well, but let’s face it, you can’t beat stripes. Thick stripes, thin stripes, up stripes, down stripes, black stripes, white stripes…Here are some of the best stripes around.

Christmas is here. Time to get yourself a decent suit to impress the ladies (or gentlemen) at the Chrimbo parties. French Eye isn’t perhaps a very well known name but it offers a range of suits at affordable prices (typically you are looking at around £150 though suits start at £99).
Their first store opened in Cannon Street in 2004 to fill the gap between high street and designer stores and they’ve now got five shops in London (Bank, Cheapside, Liverpool Street, Ludgate Circus, King’s Road) plus one in Cardiff and one in Birmingham.
Aimed at the younger end of the market, the suits are also available with a wide range of accessories including shirts, silk ties, belts and cufflinks.

Over at Catwalk Queen we’re swooning over the women at the Serpentine Gallery Summer Party, but for once the guys were holding their own even if you discount Grayson Perry and his dress!
Ron Arad sported a colourful jacket, Gareth Pugh was obviously all in black and the wonderful Bill Nighy showed that blue and grey is great. Surprise of the evening came from Pharell, who sported a pair of knee high boots, still top marks for effort.

The delicate interplay between the different colours in the Filippa K pre-Fall collection really make it. A brick shirt, cornflower trousers and a pale dove bow tie, the colours are bright but slightly faded suggesting that high summer haze and intense heat. We particularly love the pleated trousers, rolled up they make looking smart a doddle.

Alexander McQueen‘s menswear collections get more and more interesting by the season. This latest show was a clear departure in mood from his last show, ‘The Queensberry Rules’.
There was still a menacing undercurrent, with vibes of tortured artist coming through, but the overall atmosphere was that of a more feminine creativity. McQueen’s traditional rustic tailoring the look reminded me of some of the Italian workmen that the Sartorialist sometimes snaps.
Onto the gushing, the patchwork shirt and jacket are utterly gorgeous, and regardless of being a woman I want! Similarly the paint effect items moves the digital print trend forwards and the paint-spattered pieces deserve to become a fully-fledged DIY blogger trend.
Best worn: When (pretending) to paint the front room of your Milan apartment.

You can rely on Alber Elbaz and Lucas Ossendrijver to deliver a great collection and they did. This collection for Lanvin was typically elegant affair, with the très chic suits and kimono-style jackets. Irreverent touches like trousers and suits made from tie silk reinforce Elbaz’s gentle sense of humour and sandals worn with socks gave a geeky twist to the look.
