Why do people put such a low price limit when jeans shopping? Don’t give me the price nonsense either. If you spend £50 on jeans which develop holes after 3 months, then you’ll need to replace them. Do this 3 or 4 times a year and you’ll spend £150-200 on the same awful pair of jeans. So why not save that money up and get these Acne Jeans?
Denim on Denim – It can be done
For eons, I’ve had the denim on denim look as the sole preserve of builders and creepy men in clubs. But seeing this picture at the Sartorialist has changed my mind for good. Although it’s best left for the colder months, the look can be recreated with this LVC 1936 type 1 Jacket.
Dolce & Gabbana grey Jeans/trousers – Jousers?
For some weird reason, Grey jeans are still hard to come by. That’s what makes these Dolce & Gabbana light jeans a god/allah/thereisnogod-send. While I love trousers, they can be slightly too flimsy for my tastes.
Surface To Air et Justice pour tous
Electro darlings Justice have announced a collaborative effort with fellow Parisians Surface To Air, for their new clothing line ‘Justice for All’.
Clearly heavily influenced by Xavier de Ronay’s leather jacket fetish, 3 have been designed in a 150 piece run (including a rather nice biker jacket, fuelling the resurgence) along with 2 pairs of jeans.
Acne collaborate with Fantastic Man for their ‘Gentleman’s Jeans’
The Dutch duo behind the beloved Fantastic Man magazine have teamed up with Acne to produce the ‘Gentleman’s Jeans’, a pair of slightly tapered slim-ish fitting dark denim jeans. The Fantastic Man editors Gert Jonkers & Jop van Bennekom describe it thus:
“It’s reminiscent of a style that we’d see on our fathers and uncles — the dreaded pleated denim chino — but then updated and made wonderful for today and for ourselves.”
Uniqlo’s Vintage Chinos
Chino’s are the perfect mix of jean and trouser, but it was excruciatingly difficult to get hold of great fitting chino’s as they’re still a rather American item. This all changed with Uniqlo’s Vintage flat front chino’s. Whilst the price point is usually the selling point with Uniqlo – and at £25, it’s a great price – the detailing is what makes this piece stand out.
Shorts and trousers from Full Circle
Spring Summer ranges are in and Full Circle have got some great basic trousers and shorts. The linen shorts are perfect for anyone who tentatively wants to take the plunge with shorts as they are smart but not over-tailored; they also come in a wine colour and mink.
Trousers trends multiply, so take your pick!
S/S trends from left: Martin Margiela, Alexander McQueen, Prada, Burberry Prorsum.
Trouser styles have been skinny for a long time, but mirroring womenswear trends the fashion-forward kecks seen on a trendy young man could just as easily be voluminous double-pleated, geek chic cropped, wide-leg, bootcut or dropped-crotch.
Topman Dynamic Denim Feature
Topman has perfected the art of online retailing. Constantly changing and adding to their list of online sub-stores, there is a separate store for denim, t-shirts and even summerwear. The latest addition to the website is the Dynamic Denim feature. An essential to every man’s wardrobe, see after the jump for my pick of the label’s latest denim lovelies.
You Would If You Could: Denim Like Dean
Poor Daniel Bedingfield- he crooned about his ability to be James Dean and next thing he knew he was blown out of the entertainment water by his own sister.
Short shorts, the debate goes on…
As you may have noticed, Short shorts are a major topic of debate around Brandish. In fact, having failed to get my local MP to ask this at the House of Commons, I went to this week’s recording of Question Time. In between questions about the budget, I got up and yelled ‘but what about short shorts? Yay or Nay?’ I’ve got a funny feeling they won’t be airing that segment. It’s a shame really.
Until it’s short shorts weather don a pair of Topman slacks
While we’re getting all hot under the collar about the short shorts debate (seriously, is there a more important current affiairs topic?) the weather hasn’t quite caught up with us.
My Theory- The Future of Short Shorts
“You were on my mind at least nine tenths of yesterday, it seemed as if perhaps I’d gone insane. What is it about you that has commandeered my brain? Maybe it’s your…” Kimya Dawson’s brilliant lyrics ring through my head as I realise that it appears I have nothing better to do on a Saturday night than listen to the Juno soundtrack (heads up my friends,) and appear pensive and philosophical while typing away at my laptop. That is until you know what is causing me so much mental frustration- I am deciding upon my ‘theory’ (as labelled by Jason and furthered by Isabelle) regarding the devious short shorts trend.
Khakis fashioned from WWII tents
You can’t get more authentic than a pair of khakis re-fashioned from tents used in World War II.
You Would If You Could… The Awkward Lengths
The next look to make our list is the awkward length. This was a hard one to put into this feature as some do manage to pull it off but not everyone is Terence Koh and it only took a look at the local fashionisto’s crash and burn outfit of Kriss van Assche-style combat with tight tee to know that this was one to be hastily put down.
dVb- Men’s jeans by Victoria Beckham
The latest news on the fashion circuit is of Posh Spice’s interesting new venture-into the world of men’s jeans. According to an article on DNR, Beckham “despises skinny jeans on men.”
BluWash: we can finally start washing our jeans again!
I’m in no way obsessive enough to do wrench rubbings on my back pocket with sandpaper but I do care about how my jeans look. This basically means that for certain pairs I try not to wash them until the smell makes me dry-heave.
Grizzly Bear show how to wear short shorts
We were talking about Grizzly Bear at Shiny Towers today and when I had a look at their website I was struck by how well they wear short shorts.
